Are the Hawks contenders?
With the Atlanta Hawks fast start, going to the top of the NBA standings at 11-2, a full game ahead of any other team, I'm beginning to wonder if they are legitimate contenders for the NBA Championship, or if this is just a fluke. What do you think? Will they be a top 3 team in the east at the end of the season, or is this just a hot start that will end?

They could be top three in the east but they can't win a championship or even make it to the finals. They don't have a guy who can take over a game, every contender gotta have one of those guys.

NBA Championship? No shot.
Good team? Absolutely. But they still aren't in the Celtics/Magic/Cavs league in the East alone, let alone the Lakers league.

Not good enough to win title... because they are the Hawks after all. . . with a giant history of failure. Sorry Hawks fans, but at least your team is gonna have a decent record and is fun to watch.

See, I think they are pretty darn close, if not already there...2 years ago, they were one game away from knocking off the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs - last year, they knocked off a relatively strong Heat team, and ended up being ousted by the Cavs, but they played them tough too. Now, this year, they added Jamal Crawford, who is an explosive scorer, and a veteran big-man in Joe Smith - on top of that, they've already knocked off the Celtics, and are the only undefeated team at home in the east. They have a great lineup with Bibby and JJ, along with Josh Smith and Marvin Williams, who is turning into a star - add Jamal Crawford off the bench, and that's a killer lineup...ultimately, their lack of size may be their downfall, but I'd be afraid of meeting up with them in the playoffs, as of right now!

I think they're a great team, but I don't think they're on the same level of the other top three teams in the East: Celtics, Cavs, Magic.
But who knows, they may be like the Orlando Magic of last year, where nobody really took them seriously all year, then all of a sudden they surprised everybody by making it to the finals.

I think they have a chance of making it out of the east. The Celtics are playing terribly this year and they might win a series against Orlando or the Cavs. I don't see them getting past the Lakers though.
They're definitely the team to watch this year, they might go as a sleeper into the playoffs and upset some bigger names, the same way the Magic did last year.
