How panini can succeed!
In my opinion unless panini does something dramatic they will not succeed. In my opinion this is what they should do. While they don't have the autos of many stars I believe they can put them in in high-end cards. Bring back the low numbered, super rare, super creative inserts. It worked for fleer ex with Jumbalaya, which still holds value today. They need to bring back what used to be the hit back in the days, everyone still loves those inserts. I believe this mixed in with autos of rookies, stars that aren't exclusive and GU of them as well I believe this will make panini succeed in the NBA card business

It's going to be an uphill battle for them without having MJ, Kobe, and Lebron GU/Autos in their products. Who else does UD have exclusive contracts with? I think they also have Dr. J. The extrememly low-numbered inserts of these players might generate some excitement, though.

Upper Deck also has Kevin Durant and Kevin Garnett as exclusive players.

Does anyone know if Panini will have Jason Kidd autographs? Sorry if this is off topic lol.

They are definitely going to have to try a bunch of things - not everything will catch on right away, but if they keep certain things long enough, they will end up being a hit...they are going to need all the help they can get though, with so many people being skeptical of what they will release, even though they have released some wickedly sick football cards already.

Panini products will likely be pretty similar to Donruss products in football. I expect quality from them, but player selection will be a problem, at least initially.
Won't Upper Deck and Topps lose money with those exclusive contracts, having little to no products for which they can use the rights to the players? Or, lesser quality products because they have no license?
They can't just make more signed jerseys/balls/etc.
