Today in Nascar History September 10th:

Winners on this date: Joe Weatherly, Eddie Gray, Richard Petty (3 times), Darrell Waltrip, Rusty Wallace, Terry Labonte, and Kurt Busch.

September 10th, 1972: Richard Petty and Bobby Allison engage in one of the most epic late race duels in Nascar history at the Richmond Fairgroungs Raceway. Petty comes out victorious in the game of bumper cars-at one point Petty's car climbs on top of the guardrail and is going on two wheels-Petty's car comes back to the track in turn 1 and he maintains the lead!



September 10th, 2005: Roush driver Kurt Busch wins in dominant fashion at Richmond and Roush rookie Carl Edwards squeezes in the Chase making it 5 Roush Racing cars out of the 10 in Nascar's 2nd annual Chase for the Championship.

September 11th, 1949: Curtis Turner wins the 200 mile event at Langhorne Speedway with more than 20000 in attendance to watch. Female driver Sara Christian finishes 6th out of thr 45 entrants in the event.



September 11th, 1977: Neil Bonnett takes the first Cup Series victory of his career by winning at Richmond.



September 11th, 1999: Rookie Tony Stewart wins his first career Cup Series event in dominant fashion-leading 333 of the 400 laps at Richmond.



September 11th, 2004: In the last race to decide who gets into Nascar's new playoff system, the Chase-Jeremy Mayfield pulls out a clutch performance and wins at Richmond-ensuring a birth in Nascar's inaugural Chase for the Championship.

Today in Nascar History September 12th:

Winners on this date: Curtis Turner, Buddy Shuman, Hershel McGriff, Ralph Moody, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Burton, and Denny Hamlin.

September 12th, 2009: Denny Hamlin finally pulls off the win at his hometown track by dominating and winning in convincing fashion at Richmond. Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch have a great battle for the final Chase postion throughout the event, with Vickers beating Busch by a mere 8 points for the final position in the Chase-the closest in the playoff system's short history.

Today in Nascar History September 14th:

Winners on this date: Lee Petty, Speedy Thompson, Cotton Owens, Dick Hutcherson, Richard Brickhouse, Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Ricky Rudd, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Greg Biffle.

September 14th, 1947: A crowd of 20000 spectators watches the 160 lap event at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Marshall Teague wins the popular event.



September 14th, 1952: Lee Petty takes the win in the 250 mile event at Langhorne Speedway. The race is a tragic event as rookie competitor Larry Mann, crashes and rolls over on the 211th lap, resulting in fatal injuries. Mann's car was painted green, something long thought to be bad luck in racing.



September 14th, 1964: Team owner Cotton Owens ends his retirement as a driver and promptly wins the 300 mile race at Richmond, beating his hired driver David Pearson.



September 14th, 1969: Unknown driver Richard Brickhouse wins the inaugural race at the brand new 2.66 mile monster known as the Alabama International Motor Speedway (you might know it now as Talladega). Due to the high speeds and worries about blowing tires, the race is boycotted by almost every top Nascar driver opening the door for unknowns like Brickhouse.

September 14th, 1975: After breaking a tie rod midway through the race, Richard Petty rallies from an astonishing 6 lap deficit to win at Dover, edging Dick Brooks and Benny Parsons for the win.



September 14th, 1986: Ricky Rudd beats Neil Bonnett to win the Delaware 500 at Dover. It is Rudd's first speedway victory.



September 14th, 2008: Points leader Kyle Busch falters early in the first race of the Chase at New Hampshire allowing others to vie for the top spot in the points. Greg Biffle outruns Jimmie Johnson and teammate Carl Edwards to score the win.

Winners on this date: Herb Thomas, Marvin Porter, Gwyn Staley, Ned Jarrett, Richard Petty (3 times), Harry Gant (2 times), Jeff Gordon, and Ryan Newman.

September 15th, 1968: Richard Petty wins by 7 laps in the 150 mile race at Orange Speedway in North Carolina. It would be the final race at the track.



September 15th, 2002: Rookie Ryan Newman holds off a hard charging Kurt Busch right before a rain shower hits the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, ending the race and giving Newman his first career Cup series victory.

September 16th, 2007: Clint Bowyer shows why he got into the chase by dominating the field in the first chase event at New Hampshire to score his first career Cup series victory.

September 17th, 1939: Roy Hall, a notorious moonshine driver, wins a 150 mile race held at Salisbury, NC. Bill France finishes 2nd.



September 17th, 2000: In a move in response of the recent tragic accidents of both Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin at New Hampshire International Speedway, Nascar chooses to run restrictor plates at the track for this race. The event turns into a follow the leader debacle with no passing and Jeff Burton leads all 300 laps en route to the win, a first since Fireball Roberts in 1961 at Hanford, CA.



September 17th, 2006: Kevin Harvick continues his hot streak, winning his second race in a row and starting the Chase off right by dominating at New Hampshire en route to victory.

September 18th, 2005: The first race of the 2005 Chase at Loudon turns into a wreckfest with many a heated temper-Nascar parks the cars and drivers for a "cool down" period midway through the race. Ryan Newman wins by beating Tony Stewart in a great late race battle.

This was the Robby Gordon vs MW race haha-very memorable.
