    Toronto Card Shops

For a city at the epicenter of the hockey universe, Toronto card shops suck, to be perfectly honest, especially if you're stuck at or near a subway line. I think 401 knows it, too. Legends of the Game is even worse than 401. I've never found a good source for cards in Toronto, anywhere, and I lived there for years and still return frequently. You might want to seriously consider buying your stuff online from DA Card World...it is SO much cheaper. It won't give you the "quick hit" if you gotta bust something, but you'll save so much cake it's worth waiting a day. SP Game Used is $119/box, for example. That's a heck of a deal compared to shop prices.

How come neither of you go to the best source for cards in Toronto? Leaside Garden monthly card show. A lot of us would kill to have a show like that near us. Not sure if subway accessible.

I thought 401 was pretty good... price-wise. They'll give you a 10% discount if you pay cash.

    401

I'll give them this - they usually have a decent selection. But their pricing, I found, generally falls on the high side of things, which I suppose is their prerogative. They really don't have a lot of competition in that area at all, so they charge what the market will bear.

I usually go to Heinz's Hockey Cards Stamps & Coins, (416) 762-3049. 3130 Dundas W out in the Junction. Heinz, the original owner passed away a year or so ago and his friend took over. He doesn't have the best pack selection, but he will get you anything you want. I go because he's a nice guy and has loads of singles that he sells at 1/2 BV.

I have pulled some great cards there and know that he doesn't dilute his packs (re-filling boxes with dead packs) where 401 has everything on the back shelf and I have never pulled a decent card there.

The Toronto Card Show at Leaside Gardens is only minutes away from Yonge & Eglinton. Map and directions, including TTC info, is at TorontoCardShow.com.

The next show is Sunday, September 20th and it's definitely the best source in all of Toronto for both selection and pricing.

I find that 401 Games has very good pricing. As for Legends, it's true they are on the higher side, but still a decent shop.

Queensway is hands down the best shop in Toronto, but it's far from central. But they also setup at the Toronto Card Show which is.

Is there on Dundas in downtown?
It was just a cpl blocks up from Jack Astors
but I was not all too sure.
I remember to enter it you have to walk up a flight of
outside steps, take a right after entering and there it was.

I used to stop in @ Legends of the Game (corner or King & John, near the Skydome) quite a bit. I haven't been there in a long time now..... so I can't really say how their selection is now. Used to be incredible (used to advertise themselves as Canada's largest Sports Cards & Memorabilia store), but they've shrunk the amount of space they've got. Used to be a huge building..... most of it is a Tim Hortons now, and I think they're just wedged into the side of it.

Probably still worth checking out if you're in the area.
