i collect pretty much everything. The t-mac patch is 2 colors. blue and black.(the black is the outside of the #. some stitching also

I hope it helps you out. As far as people who chose lesser-known players, they do so because of various reasons. The main reasons are that they like them and they can get their cards easier (collecting Kobe or Garnett is a lost cause unless you have tons of cash and luck, lol).
