    Gorgeous Gretzky Auto Patch

Just came across this on Ebay, probably one of the best Gretzky patch autos I've seen. Unfortunately the guy selling it is one of those you know whats asking a king's ransom for it.

Wow. You wern't kidding. That card is an absolute beauty! $10k might be a little much though. I'm sure he's just shooting for the moon though. An offer less than half that will probably take it.

That's a spectacular card for sure. Can't blame a guy for asking a lot for it. I wouldn't let it go cheap, and I doubt you would either. In the end it's his card, his price.

Surely I'd agree that it would be tough to let that go cheap, but my issue is more so the abundance of sellers on Ebay who do this. Yes I have cards that I would not let go cheap, or even anywhere close to what I paid because they are PC. The thing is though that I am not actively listing them in hopes of selling, and would only really do so if approached by somebody with a crazy offer. In this case, there are sellers who have cards they are looking to move, list them frequently for sale, and yet still have outrageous, and almost laughable prices on them. Heck a Gretzky logo shield sells for less than half that.

When price is high, it is not to immediately sell, mostly to advertise the card, to get attention on the card. By experience, this kind of auction is useful to initiate discussions between the seller and the potential collectors interested in the card, and sometime later it could end with an offline deal. It is win-win for everydoby.

Yea I get what youre saying and have had similar experiences. Its just when the price is THAT "out there" it comes off as obnoxious. Like this for example

Yeah you make alot of sense but I think alot of guys do this to show off their cards/collections. I'm sure if you message the guy and try to see what he really needs for the card, you may never know what you might get it for. Alot of times it works out.....

I know a guy who listed a few sets of his Cup rookies on ebay at a ridiculous amount and I for the life of me never thought he'd get a sniff. Well let me tell you, I get an email, from the seller on eBay, after they've been listed for about a month that says that the sets were sold. Both buyer and seller amicable reached an agreement off line to save fees and such and they were both happy with with the result!!

It's more of a show and tell rather than let me see if I can get $10000 for it. He may want to sell it or he may be doing it to get another person peeved or excited about the card he has in his collection. There are always people looking for the rarer cards like that and especially the likes of Gretky, Howe, Messier, Crosby, Ovy and others. But what they're willing to pay is another story. I wouldn't get too excited or peeved about the asking price....
