Question about 2008-09 Black Diamond
Always wondered this, why are the double and triple diamond cards so undervalued in the 2008-09 edition of Black Diamond in Beckett? Other years they have booked fairly well, now people are selling/trading them for almost as little as the common base card.

I don't understand how BD works, or how they're listed- for any given card, are all the cards the sam? I.e. a Lemieux is Quad in all cards made for him for 08-09 BD?

there is no other "regular" card of lemieux other then the quad.
i dont understand the pricing this year too, since 05-06 there were better values for the double and triple.
but it is a good example of the power of beckett, i am sure those singles were selling for more until the values came out

Black Diamond really seems to have fallen out of favour in the hobby. Judging by singles I've seen on ebay, it was very lightly broken out of the gate. It's unfortunate, because I think BD is actually one of the more fun products to break, with sharp looking base cards, but I think UD needs to look at reducing base set production, because there's still piles of it unopened.

I agree- I think UD needs to make the base cards numbered or something. Or maybe just do short printings (even if like 999 or something) of anything more than single diamond. Maybe do like 2 dmnds= /1999, 3 dmnds= /999 and 4 dmnds = /499 or something of that nature.
I do think the Black Diamonds are nice looking cards, with nice base and rookies, but they do need to do something to increase the scarcity of some to make a better "value" for higher end players.
Just my humble opinions ;-)

thats a good idea, ik i got a nicklas backstrom triple in my first box and i though it would book around $10 comparing to older years but it's only 1.50
but i actually think quads are a little overpriced this year. most of the guys are the same, which doesn't make sense since it should follow the double/triple trend but gretzky was $30 last year and he's $50 this year. same with howe, $20 last year and $40 last year. so i agree that there should be a numbering system, but that might mean that the prices of boxes go up too, which means i wouldn't be able to afford it

Because Beckett = pretty darn close to irrelevant.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I like the set but alot of people don't, I think it is because the there are no patches not many autos.....

Mack, I agree with you in liking the set- yes, jerseys and autos are good, but a nice looking base set and nice looking rookies are a good thing. Compared to many other base sets over the last couple of years, Black Diamond takes the cake as far as the look of the base cards. I just wish there were a little more distinction when it comes to the >1 diamonds, such as making the 2, 3 and 4 diamonds more unique by limited print runs.
