everyone who trades please take a look
ok so i was thinking today about my cards. i will list mine and others you can list yours. what cards do you have that you have had trade talks with involving that card that you feel the value is really low or high. i will give mine.
low-shea weber bap auto rc. it is only $6 and it is an auto rc of a guy who could play for canada at the olympics and can score 20 goals a year as a defencemen.
high-jonathan bernier UD rookie threads is $25. someone wanted it in a trade and it was $25. i think that is a lot for a plain jersey of the kings third string goalie.
what do you guys have?

Weber - Dman in Nashville ( not really an auto RC either ) .... nothing else has to be said
Bernier - 3rd string right now .... massive potential on a young, improving team.

yea it's all about who people thinks has potential to be the next gretzky or whatever, i like sam gagner but he is way overpriced right now, but that's because he's only 19 or 20 and he is supposed to be good. anyways i'll give mine:
overpriced - 07-08 marc staal ultimate debut threads $25. usually people aren't after the fundamental D who do what's needed other than getting points but even if they are after his point total, he only had 15 points last year. just cause he's a staal shouldn't mean he should be a lot either.
underpriced - 81-82 peter stastny topps rc $4. had 7 seasons over 100 points and 4 seasons over 40 goals but his main rc is only $4? good for me though cause i collect him lol.

overpriced
Carey Price - what i have seen so far in the pre-season this guy is nowhere near a NHL-Starter... if he continues to struggle the hobby will wreak havoc on him
underpriced
Bobby Ryan - ok... his cards aren't commons but i think he is the real deal pure magic stickhandling, playing in Anaheim hurts

Because the pre-season is really the time to determine just how good a player is. By that logic, Cal Clutterbuck should be shooting through the roof any day now.
Regarding the overall values, it's Beckett. Beckett is not particularly relevant to a majority of traders these days. Just because they post a price on a card doesn't mean that's what it's value is if people are buying that particular card on eBay for a dollar.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

i am constantly amazed at how inexpensive (from a comparitive value standpoint) Nik Lidstrom cards are. most knowledgable hockey people have stated that if they could build a team around 1 dman it would be him. i know hes getting older but over the years this has been an accurate staement.
and how Sid Crosbys cards are way overvalued.this is not a knock on Crosby, BUT for what he personally has accomplished , not from a team perspective, it just confuses me. he doesnt win scoring championships, he wasnt instrumental in defeating detroit last year in the SCFinals.. he seems to be a team player with talent, who needs strong support from said teammates. others seem to be able to lift teams and carry them, Crosby not so much. is it simply because he's Canadian???

I have always wondered why Lidstrom doesn't demand more value. I won't complain though I've been able to build quite a nice collection of his cards because they are relatively cheap.

Timing. Lidstrom debuted in the absolute nadir of the hockey card hobby, when the concept of "scarcity" was not one understood by the multiple manufacturers of the time. Thus why an RC will peak at $3. Times have changed, the notion of SP'ing rookie cards is in full effect, so we see players who will play 20 games in the NHL with an SP Authentic auto RC that "book" higher than a Lidstrom. It's not particularly just or sensible, but that's what it is. As for Crosby, there's a lot of promotional power behind him - he's a brand just like Michael Jordan or LeBron James or Derek Jeter or Wayne Gretzky. Sure he didn't win the Calder and no he hasn't won a lot of individual awards compared to that other major rookie that debuted in 05-06 but he's got a very strong following that fuels demand. To me, there is no greater injustice in the hobby today than the wide disparity between pricing on Crosby and Ovechkin. It is beyond the pale that 3 Ovy YGs = 1 Crosby YG.

agreed, why ovechkin is sometimes twice as less as crosby is beyond me...usually people don't go after the assist players as much as the goal players(like ron francis, adam oates, etc...).

I couldn't agree more with you guys about the Crosby vs Ovy thing. Ovechkin is CLEARLY a better player than Crosby yet for whatever reason, people are drooling more over Crosby cards. Along those same lines, it's my opinion that Malkin is ALSO a much better player than Crosby and he also has not received as much hobby love as Crosby which makes no sense. Why would you want cards of a guy like Crosby who whines to refs and sucker punches people off the draw when you could get cards of a complete player like Ovechkin or Malkin who will REALLY fight their own battles while STILL putting up better numbers than Crosby? I really don't get it sometimes...
