New TV Shows - the review thread
I don't know why, but for some reason I'm actually trying to watch some of the new shows this fall. I rarely watch any TV beyond sports and even then it's mostly re-runs. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Entourage are the only shows I've made a point to watch in recent memory.
Anyway, I thought we could start a thread for everyone to give their opinion on new shows coming out. People who haven't seen them can see if they want to, we can compare opinions, etc.
Last night, I watched Modern Family (was curious) and Cougar Town (nothing else was on and it came on right after Modern Family) and I checked out Community last week.
Modern Family I liked...wasn't great, but good. I like to see Ed O'Neil back and in basically the same ol' Al Bundy role, although a little toned down. There were some funny parts all around, although the guy trying to be the "cool dad," while funny at first, was kinda over the top and got on my nerves. Probably not something I'd make a point to watch each week, but if I'm there and it's on, it would be one of the better choices I think.
Cougar Town was just bad...well, not entirely. Courtney Cox was in nothing but panties and a bra twice...that wasn't bad...was actually pretty good. But the show was bad. I don't like Cox (except to look at), I don't like the guy playing her ex-husband, and the whole idea is a little too ****ty for TV to me...makes people think it's ok to be like that. Most of the "funny" parts weren't very funny at all. I don't see this one lasting a whole season.
Community I liked quite a bit. I like Joel McHale, he's a funny guy...and you can't go wrong w/Chevy Chase in a supporting role (as a lead, you can go wrong). And the nerdy professor was great to, very funny stuff. There were some great little jokes too...I know it was on the previews, but I love the "I thought you had a degree from Columbia? And now I need one from America" line. As long as it doesn't get too "heart warming," it should be a good one and I'll definitely try to tune in again.
Pretty interested in the premiere of Flash Forward tonight too...cool idea, but the end result will all depend on how they flesh it out, all in the little details.
There are a lot of shows that just look downright terrible, as always. Eastwick, the Good Wife, Brothers, Accidentally on Purpose, Househusbands of Hollywood (really???), the Vampire Diaries...a whole lot of suck.
So feel free to jump in with your reviews of shows you've seen, questions about shows you haven't, shows you want to see, and general new TV show discussion.

I am really looking forward for Flash Forward.
I think the same way about Cougar Town. The other ones, no interest at all

Glee: Best new show on television, it's hilarious and deserves all the hype it has received. The singing numbers are overly produced but it doesn't take to much away from it. It's a campy and cheesy show but in the best way possible.
Community: A lot better than I expected and about as good as I hoped. Perfectly casted and I can't wait for Ken Jeong to show up. It's going to be very interesting to see what they do with the story arch for the characters.
Modern Family: The previews didn't have me hooked, but Im a sucker for Julie Bowen so I had to check the show out. I thought it was really good. I love the mockumentary format, and it's great to see one that has a different feel than The Office or Parks and Rec.
Cougar Town: Will check out on Hulu sometime this week. Im sure I'll be disappointed since it got mixed reviews but I have faith in Bill Lawerence.
Other shows: Im looking forward to Flash Forward but I feel like it will be terrible. Just seems like a hard premise to execute well. The Middle is a show that I don't think will be good, but Im obligated to check out since Neil Flynn is in it.
The show Im most excited for that I haven't seen yet is The League on FX. It will probably be god awful but just the thought of getting a man 3 less years in jail by trading away Adrian Peterson cracks me up.

Glee: I can't stand anything musical, even mockingly so (aside from Southpark: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut), so I refuse to even give this a chance.
Modern Family: That's exactly how I felt about the mockumentary style. When I read that, I was praying it wasn't another Office knock-off.
I'd forgot about the League...they don't even put FX stuff on the list I looked at I guess. It probably will be bad in general, but I'm sure FF players will get a kick out of it none the less.

i pretty much only watch sports too...im not a big tv person, but when i hear a show is good, then i check it out...im always behind...but i do watch pretty much anything HBO produces
are you up to date on this season of Entourage? it's a great show, but it's kind of got stagnant on me...i dont care about eric and his psycho girlfriend, or turtle being in love with meadow soprano...just give me ari gold & johnny drama 24/7
has anybody seen eastbound & down? there was 6 episodes on HBO back in the spring, and they renewed for a 2nd season....it's got Danny McBride as a former big league pitcher, and it's FREAKING AMAZING!!!!! It's the funniest show I've seen all year

Nah I don't have HBO any more...and it's killing me! I miss Entourage so much...I could care less about E and his drama, but I don't like Johnny much either. I don't like watching drama in general, I just want good times.
I'd love to see East Bound and Down too, I heard it was hilarious...sounds right up my alley.

I liked Cougar Town, love Courteney Cox and if only every 45 year old woman can look like that

Also enjoyed Eastwick, that was one of the premiere shows I wanted to check out when I was down in San Diego for Comic-Con. Very well written and I didn't think it would have as much humor as they put in

Eastbound was awesome!! I hated the ending, so very interested to see how they are going to start off season 2. Big fan of his lady too. Not a show stopper, but very nice (IMO)

dood...make like 5 less trades per month and you got the 10 bucks you need for HBO...lol...just kidding man
so you really don't like johnny drama? he's my favorite (and easily the funniest) of the crew, but Ari is my favorite on the show. Eric pretty much annoys me, but there is a great scene with him & Bob Saget this season (might be the funniest scene of the season so far)
eastbound & down is a riot...check out his baseball cards
