In time ALL cards produced today lose value. Those that have stood the test of time have at the very least maintained their value, such as cards from the original T206 set.

I dont get what your saying. Say I buy a Donald Brown auto for 20 bucks today and in 20 years he is inducted into the hall of fame as the unanimous greatest running back of all time. That card will never lose its value, rookies are the best way to maintain and increase value.

Sure it will. He's alive long enough to sign autographs for everybody who wants one.

And there are quite a few who believe an autograph is an autograph no matter when it was signed. And if there are plenty out there, that numbered rarity loses it's value because even though it is the only card signed that way, there are plenty of other autographs of that same player to go around.

There is no way an auto is an auto. A rookie auto is much more valuable.

A rookie auto to some is more valuable. To some people it doesn't matter. And HOF doesn't denote a value for an autograph. It is amazing how many HOFers who sign consistently that have cards that are cheap. Cheap! Ozzie Newsome, Charlie Sanders, Bill Dudley, and the cheapest of all - Chuck Bednarik. Send 20 cards to Chuck and he will sign them.
Some, like Jerome Bettis, I doubt will see a jump in value when (!) he gets into the HOF. He signs very little and his autos are VERY high priced already.
Todays rookies, IMO, will never rise much in value due to the already inflated prices they come out at. A Roethlisberger rookie auto will never do more than creep up or down a bit. It is almost set in stone. The only case for this is a sleeper that no one saw coming like Brady, but that happens so infrequently it is just a fluke.
Since we are talking statistics about which will carry more value - RB's, QB's and the like, it is actually not worth it to collect rookies. How many consistently fail to reach star status? 90%? Heck, how many are actually around two years later out of the 150 rookies produced every year?Very, very few.
I collect for the fun of it and because I like the Steelers regardless of their value. Sometimes I hope for the entire market to just crash so I can pick up autos of some of my favorite players regardless of their worth or their resale value.
Everyone collects their own way and that's what it is about.

Brown stuff is starting to get some upward movement,Mccoy is still comparably low but hes starting today so a big game can push prices through the roof quick (remember Kolby smith a couple years ago)
