How do you organize your collections?

I'm having a hard time and need advice. I'm re-organizing all of my collections and am stuck with how i want to organize them. I like doing them by teams because then it is alot easier to find the players im looking for. BTW, I keep all my cards in 18 card pages (Front and Back). But then I was thinking that it would look alot cooler if I put the sets together. But when i started doing that I realized that I have some cards that belong to a set that I have no other cards to go with and dont know where to put them. So I htink I might go back to doing them by teams so i can find the players easier and then put all of my special player collections in a seperate book and also all my rookies/game-used/auto cards in seperate books also. But you think I should really seperate them that much or should I keep all my rookies together with the teams?

The only thing that I know for sure is that I am going to have one seperate book for all of my player collections (such as my fav players like Drury and Helton and such...) Then keep a seperate book for all of my HOME teams (Rockies, Avs, Broncos, Nuggets) just so I can find my fav teams faster... but what do you guys suggest that I do with the rest of them? Please don't suggest that I keep them in boxes or whatever because I dont like that. I want all my cards in pages someday that way i can see all of my cards ;)

Thanks, I appreciate you reading this long post and helping me out :D

I agree that it is nice to have your cards in sheets so that you can see them, but be careful. I noticed when I used to store my Garnett collection in sheets & binders, that some of the cards near the D-Rings were bending/warping because of the weight of the other sheets/cards. Ultimately, I decided to store mine in top loaders and 2500 count boxes.

    Good luck collecting!

I don't really have an answer for you, but I'll tell you how mine ore "organized". All commons are put in monster boxes where I forget about them for a year or so, eventually find them and pull out cards for ttm. All star cards are in a seperate monster box seperated by player. Yankees and Vikings have their own boxes. Inserts have a box, rookies have two boxes, and GU/Autos have a box. I pu my ttm autos in pages and I like the way that works, but it would take hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars to put everything else I have into pages. Not to mention the 40 days and nights I'd be woking my fingers to the nubs.

    Heres how mine is organized:

-I have all my stuff for trade in shoeboxes with penny sleeves around the cards.

-My personal collection goes in custom binders that I order for MJ Roop Archivers.

-I usually dump all my commons or donate them.

    -Game used/Autos are in screwdowns.

Autographed cards and index cards are put in 9-pocket sheets in binders. Game-used cards and more valuable cards are in soft sleeves in top-loaders. The rest of the cards are in soft sleeves in 32-quart plastic containers (they are separated by years and put alphabetically).

The majority of my collection is in binders, separated by each player, with no real order after the 3rd binder. I have two binders for my favorite player, and a third that I just started doing for Bullets/Wizards cards.

My more expensive cards are in a box in top holders. My even more expensive cards (Nolan Ryan RC, various Mantles) are in various sized screwdowns, stored in a safe inside of my safe. My Mickey Mantle autographed ball's in there too.

As I am collecting sets, my cards are in 3200 count boxes by set, in order of year, and although not necessary, I keep stuff sorted by manufacturer.

Inserts, GU and AU go at the back of each set they come from.

I have a small assortment of Expos and Jays that are not from sets I am otherwise collecting, so they just get put wherever in a bunch.

Higher end sets go in penny sleeves. The most valuable cards also go into a top loader. The most common stuff (e.g. Topps Total) just stays in the box without any other protection, but I wash my hands before handling the cards, if that helps.

I'm also organizing my cards, too. Since I only try to complete 2-4 sets per year, I try to put all of one year's cards into one 3200-count box and label the box (using Avery mailing labels & my printer or even using extra videocassette labels). Ideally, I'd like to move ALL of my cards into binders, whenever the budget permits.

My base cards are then sorted by year/set/team/position. Insert cards go into binders, usually in numeric order. Any GU's or autos go into toploaders and eventually screwdowns.
