This came as a bit of a surprise to me in the sense that there was no reports that he was going to retire. It's also a surprise that he made a decision before the season even started.

    Mats is definately HHOF material!

Great Player, Great Captain, Great Person, to me he was the Roy Halliday of the Leafs, soooooooo much better then the team that was around him, 25th all time in points without a 40-50 goal winger? I liked that he always played better with a chip on his shoulder, don't get the big guy angry he'll burn ya everytime, game breaker, and his ability to come back from injury was second to none, and he wrote the book on how to handle the T.O media, just a class act.
maybe he'll get a job as a scout in Sweden, can't wait for the alumni games and his HOF induction and when the leafs honour his number.

Same here. He had a great career with the Leafs and Nordiques. Would've been nice if he could have won the Stanley Cup last season in Vancouver before retiring.

I'm going to miss watching him play in the NHL. Very consistent point producer over his career. Could have done even better with a better team around him in Toronto. Would think he is HHOF for sure.

Sad to see him go out without winning a Cup, but he'll most definitely be enshrined into the Hockey Hall of Fame in a few years.
