Grumpy old man rant #2 - pointless redemptions
I understand that redemptions are a necessary evil. It is hard to get so many busy star atheletes to sign little stickers or pieces of cardboard over and over again and send them to the card companies on time. That having been said, some redemptions make no sense. Example: Opened a pack of UD Icons football the other day. I got a redemption, and was thinking, hey this is cool, it should be good. I saw the name "Mickey Rourke." ok, that is fine, a celebrity, a little different, but it's cool. However, the redemption was for a "non auto" letter patch....wait, what? Not only did I get a hit out of a pack of football cards that isn't even an athelete, but it is for a card that isn't autographed? So I will probably be waiting for a year for a card with rourke's picture on it and a manufactured 'E' in the middle of it....great. I imagine that UD is waiting to get the Auto version of those cards back, and will send them out all at once, but really, come on. Just give me the stupid letter patch and be done with it....I am hoping they have to replace it and I get something from, well, you know, a sport. Anyone else have any good redemption stories, either positive or negative? Great replacement cards for redemptions that never happened? let's hear 'em!

I agree, when I thought I was getting his auto, I was completely happy with that. Heck, if it had just been the manufactured patch coming out of the pack, I would have been happy with that too, not a bad hit from one pack of Icons...but a redemption for a non auto manufactured patch? annoying...

I know, I have seen people just getting some of their redemptions, or their replacements back for stuff they opened a year ago...I will circle September 2010 on my calender and wait patiently for my Mickey Rourke manufactured patch to come!

you could always shoot them an email and see if you can get a replacement for an athlete. worst they could do is say no.

WVcoltsfan...where is the fun in ranting if there is a simple and easy solution to my problem? ;) The thing with a manufactured patch redemption for a celebrity is that it makes no sense. At least for a manufactured patch for a player, it is made to look like it came off the back of a jersey...but for a celeb? No sense....I might send them an email it takes too long for that thing to ship, that was a good suggestion! thanks
