He's arguably the best player in the game right now. No one can even enter the best ever conversation until they have a decade under their belt or more. It's not the single of few seasons of performance that really matters, and frankly Ovechkin has not yet even sniffed at a single season comparable to Wayne's best. It is the consistency over 10+ years that will give him a shot at it. He plays a much more physical game in a much less open style of play. Can he endure the test of time is the question.
But frankly to comment after one game this season that this alone ends the debate as the best single player is silly. I do think he is the best. I'd hands down take him over anyone in the league, but last night certainly did nothing to make up my mind in his favor.
