With 09-10, Let's reflect upon 08-09!
Let me start by saying that I didn't even really start collecting until November 2008. Sure I had a few jersey cards laying around, that's about it. But in less than a year, I have developed 5 pretty nice PC's with my 5 players, and with that, thank you SCF because 85% of that stuff was obtained here!
Remember: #1 Rule - It's not always about being a Super Collector, or getting every single card of your player, or busting 3492874 tins of the Cup, it's all about the fun! As long as you are having fun, this is a successful hobby! I hate when people let forget that point, so there's my little inspiration for the day
Since we are now well underway into our new journey of grabbing those PC cards from yet another year, I thought it'd be cool to share some favorites from the last year of cards.
So what were some of your favorite designs of the year?
Or least favorite is you feel like sharing those as well
(In no particular order for me)
1. - Black Diamond Quad Jersey, loved the design, love the way some of the colors were aranged on the cards, there were some seriously sick ones.
2. - SPGU Significance, and Extra Significance. Had a such a sharp look in my opinion
3. - SPA Penned Perfection Auto's. Was lucky enough to grab a Miller one of these, and boy is it a gorgeous card
4. - Artifacts Tundra Tandems. (Maybe because I know the sicker end of the Miller/Vanek Spectrum there with the 6 color /35, the /10, and /5)
But because they hard a very sharp look to them, liked them better than last years, just a nice design I enjoyed chasing (and still am chasing for that matter)
5. - Victory Black RC's - They just looked great this year, comparible to 05-06 maybe, but other than that, the best I've seen.
One of my very least favorites -
SPx - The GU cards (Not Rookie jerseys) Very small swatches, in just a horrible designed swatch window, just thought they were very ugly and unnattractive.
So everyone else, share your favorites, least favorites, or anything else you'd like!

My favorite designs mostly come from UD Black. The Game Night tickets, Marks of Obsidian, Lustrous Materials, and of course, the Pride of a Nation cards. And as always, the Ice rcs were very sharp looking as well.

Knew I forgot one in my list, I agree with you there, literally every card or subset from that set was gorgeous. Too bad I only have some Letterman, a "base" card (quad jersey) and a dual patch

Favorites:
1) Between The Pipes Jersey/Number/Emblem cards. Simple design with colorful photos on most and a good sized jersey piece. The Number and Emblem pieces were a bit small, but the quality of the patch selection on most of them makes up for it.
2) Between The Pipes Super-Sized Pads. Doesn't need an explanation :P
3) SPx Rookie Jersey Autographs. I'm not a rookie collector by any stretch, but I really like the design of the SPx rookies in 2008/09 I think they were quite sharp.
4) Ultimate Shield/Rookie Shield. Really sharp design on these, if I could pick up a shield from any year of Ultimate it would be 2008/09. Still looking for the Nikolai Kulemin if anybody knows where I can find it ;)
There were plenty of designs I really disliked this year, too many to have picked one :)

Centennial, Centennial, Centennial. That's what 08-09 meant for me. I spent more on that product than I did on anything else combined, and the results pretty much speak for themselves. At the peak, I had 3 base sets, 1 master 1-300 set, 45 Habs Inks, 18 LBBR Jerseys, a Price/Markov dual auto, and a Langway/Savard/Markov triple auto. I've moved some of those items along but still maintain a sizeable collection that brings me great joy.
Also, 08-09 meant actual game-used Carey Price cards from Upper Deck. I'm still very happy with my Artifacts Tundra Tandems, as those were the first GU cards of Carey.
Finally, ITG rose to prominence in my collection, as H&P has now become one of my "must do" sets and will be again this year. Plus, my five best Carey cards are all made by ITG.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I'm with Inferno-- I felt virtually done with UD game used towards the beginning of the year, to the point where I really was going to give up on them all together.
ITG Between the Pipes totally refreshed gu'd for me, and I tried to trade for as much as I could. A great set, I'm interested to see what direction they take this year on that.
I think the other cards that really kicked *** in hockey was Champs, even though I thought the base set and rc's kinda sucked. I like the concepts of such sets, and I'm glad hockey has a set with unique autos, etc. (fossil cards are so cool). What they need to do here is kick the regular set quality up a notch (and reduce the Kronwall/stafford/cleary auto count)
The most fun I had was probably with black diamond. I agree the quad jerseys were a big step up from 07-08.

I completely agree.
I also like the Draft Boards from The Cup and Super Size Pads & Gloves from BTP.

Super Sized Pads/Gloves were certainly some awesome pieces.
The Cup is always a nice product, all the cards in there are sharp looking

1.) UD Black Pride of a Nation - Loved these cards even though they are manufatured patches. My Richards remains my #2 PC item behind his Cup RC.
2.) BTP - Hands down the most fun break I've had in a while. I've opened 3 boxes and gotten 2 Complete Jersey cards /9 and two Emblems/Numbers /19. Great value!
3.) RBK Logos in Patches - Don't know if these were used much before this year but they make some sick patches.

I must say that UD Black was an awesome looking product this year, no other way to say it. Personally, out of what I bought, I LOVED Black Diamond this year.
1.) Base cards looked much more appealing than in years past.
2.) The fact that UD put more emphasis on the Rookie Gems Set by simply making the font size for the words Rookie Gems bigger was a big step up as well.
3.) I LOVED the idea of the Premier Cuts as they offered some spice and value to what has typically been a base-heavy product.
4.) The quad jerseys are just waaaaaaay sharper and more appealing to me than in years past.
5.) I just had tremendous luck with this product pulling a Messier Triple Diamond Premier Cuts, Orr quad diamond base, and a Crosby Gemography just to mention a few ;)
And Derrick, I must say that I am quite impressed to have watched your PCs develop over this last year (you are SO welcome for turning you onto SCF by the way ;)
Here's to another great year in the card-collecting hobby world!
