Favorite Success
I am sure there is a topic like this somewhere but it has escaped my notice.
I am just curious, if you had to pick only one...which of your successes is your favorite and why?
Personally, my favorite is a ROMLB signed by Bobby Thomson. He personalized it and inscribed it 'The Shot Heard 'Round the World' and dated it. I have just loved the look of it since I received it and appreciated the extra minute he spent with it when all I did was ask for his signature.
I look forward to hearing about your favs.

I would say mine is a hand written letter from Karl Rove and I actually have had multiple correspondences with him after this (he is helping me get involved with politics)
or
my Kevin Smith auto I got through email (I have wanted it for so long!)
Neither are my rarest or most expensive, but favorites...

Its surprising who you can converse with if you give it a try. I have had the pleasure of trading emails with Tucker Carlson a couple of times. Really a great and enlightening experience.

Even though I've received bigger names like Peyton Manning and Maria Sharapova, my favorite one would have to be a John Kuhn (Packers Fullback) I received about two months ago. I made an awesome art project of him after several letters and autographs and sent him a copy to keep and a copy to sign. He did indeed keep one and sign the other, so I was really happy. Still wanting to get it framed. ;)

It's a tough call for me, but I can narrow it down to 2. One I got when I originally did TTM with my father about 20 years ago. The other I just received last week.
Honorable Mentions - Mickey Mantle: Okay okay, so technically it's not mine yet. Some people have Jesus, the Pope, or the President's pic hanging in their homes. Not mine growing up...we had Mickey Mantle. He was my dad's hero, and he got to meet him in NY in the early 1990's. My dad presented him with a mini-poster, guessing 7x13ish or so from 1967. Poster is pretty much mint - The Mick let out a whistle when he saw it and looked at me dad with a smile, asked him where he found it. Dad told him, and this is the truth, that he's had it since he was a child. Told him that Mantle was the very reason he played ball (coaches high school now). So Mantle said, "I'll sign it with a little something special, I only do this for special occasions, but I really like this and appreciate this gesture." So, he signed it, but added "No.7" below his name.
HM: Peter Laird & Kevin Eastman - These dudes pretty much despise one another now, I think (?). Together they created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. One of them got boned, the other prospered after the Turtles success...anyway, at a convention I got an old, original TMNT comic signed by the both of them. Each added their own little drawing of a ninja turtle w/ sig.
Phew...But really, the next 2 are my true faves!!! Ha, sorry to be so long winded, but when it comes to this I think the story behind the item is as important.
1. Phil Rizzuto - Signed our cards (Dad and I), but also sent me a 5x7 photo inscr. "To Joey, HOLY COW!! Phil Rizzuto" - One of my first auto's.
2. Stan Lee - I collected sport cards for a short while...til I discovered comic books really. Growing up, I loved Spider-Man, the X-Men, Daredevil...all creations of Stan Lee. Once high school hit, I became "too cool" for them, but I eventually returned because comics always held a spot in my heart. I read the trades of more adult themed, independents now and then still. Anyway, it is Stan Lee who I credit for giving me many wonderful childhood memories spent with my friends and our comics. Plus, there were a few conventions I attended where he appeared - convention only permitted him to sign for 50 people. Needless to say, that wasn't me but I got to send him a nice heartfelt letter a few weeks ago. He signed my Daredevil #16 (from early 1960's). Cover has Daredevil fighting Spider-Man. They are colorized and the background is a dark b&w cityscape. He signed it in silver, and it POPS! right off of the page. Can't wait to get this professionally framed.Last edited by JVazz29; 10-21-2009 at 07:39 AM. Reason: More....
