Postal Insurance What the Hey?
I had sold an item online and insured it for $150. It sold for $140 plus about $9 shipping. It was damaged when recieved and I returned it wih no issues until I turn in the forms. They said I needed to have proof of the value. It wasn't through an auction, so I found a near identical one on ebay that sold for $125. I explained this was a close item and they would only refund me the $125? I also added that the item had another $9 of shipping and they wouldn't include this in the refund cost. They said that was all it was worth. My arugement was that the item cost me that much. They wouldn't accept a copy of the email for proof and the M.O. was already gone. I'm not too broke up about it and I understand why the do it, people would be insuring $0.10 cards and getting $120 back. Its more to the point that they took my money as $150 insurance. They wouldn't even refund the .25 difference in insurance from $125 to $150 lol.
Just a heads up to anyone using insurance to keep records until everyone is happy. If this had been an ebay or paypal auction, they would have gobbled up close to that in fees anyhow. I prefer to sell direct to avoid such hassles, but they always get you in the end.

Here in Canada (Canada Post), for collectibles, insurance is valid in case of item lost in the mail. If item is damaged, Canada Post won't pay the insurance. Nobody knows if item was initially sent damaged. Maybe policy has changed since that time.
