When will U/D get it right?
Received a J Theodore game used in mail in a trade today. Card is from 08/09 U/D
black diamond and is the 4 piece one, all white pieces. Very nice card. BUT front of card shows him in an Avalance uniform, bottom right of card says Capitals, and back of card say it was used in a Canadians game. You would think they would at least try to get their information correct. Oh well I needed the card so I am still happy. Just the usual rant against U/D I guess.

Not surprising, really. UD doesn't care if the photo or team matches the swatch, as long as there is a piece of something in the card. You're lucky if the player even matches the swatch sometimes :P
ITG makes it a point to match the swatch to the photo, and even go as far as to make different versions of a card within the same set to accommodate different teams. They've done it for Patrick Roy cards (Montreal/Colorado), Roberto Luongo cards (Florida/Vancouver), and Ray Bourque (Boston/Colorado) just to name a few.
The big reason you get miss-matched stuff like that is because UD needs to use up old stock, I guess they want to keep photos as current as possible without having to throw out old stuff and buy new jerseys.Last edited by Inferno; 10-06-2009 at 01:52 PM.

What exactly is the problem? The information is likely all correct. When Black Diamond is made, UD likely doesn't have photos of the players in the new jerseys from off-season signings. Sure Theodore signed with Washington in July '08 but that doesn't mean he was on the ice, so they had to use a Colorado photo. In all likelihood, much as is the case with Thornton and Bruins jerseys, they're probably also clearing out the last of their stock with Canadiens jerseys. They may not have a Theodore Avs jersey.
It's unusual, it's a bit funny looking, but the information on the card is likely 100% correct.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Yeah, I've got a bunch of UD 05-06 GU cards that show the pic of one uniform, name a different team on the front and still a different team on the back description. Pretty crazy.

Overall, I would say this is very low on the list of wrongs commited by card manufacturers. Game used jerseys are expensive, and you can't expect any manufacturer to just toss usable pieces every time a player gets traded.
I understand that it's less than optimal, but there are far worse things happening in the hobby.

that is pretty lame though, just like the 08-09 tundra tandems i had of thornton/marleau with the patch belonging to thornton coming from the bruins...i mean whats the point of the tandem? both players are good on the same team, so why would one jsy belong to one team and the other jsy belong to a totally different one? if i were a sharks collector, i wouldn't be too happy about this.
yes, they don't want to waste the old jsy's but they can at least make a seperate flashback set where they can throw most of the older pieces. they can afford to take out a set or two and incorporate this idea, the only cards (from ud) with older jsy pieces of current players is the spa rookie review patches and the spx flashback fabrics, or at least their supposed to be flashback jsy's...anyways both being a little difficult to pull on a normal basis. i mean if they have that much left over jsy's then i think they can make a nice set out of them without throwing them on a card of a player three years later. just my opinion....
