South Los Angeles (myFOXla.com) - Freeway Ricky Ross was a 1980s drug kingpin who became a multi-millionaire urban legend in Los Angeles. So much so that a rapper took his name and parlayed that into a career as a music star.

The real Rick Ross spent 20 years in prison for his crimes... but now that he's a free man, he's got big plans for the future.

In the 1980's, the CIA smuggled cocaine into the USA and specifically Los Angeles, where it was turned into crack and sold. The proceeds of these drug transactions were directly used to purchase weapons for the CIA-backed Contras. Ricky Ross main supplier was a nicaraguan named Danilo Blandon, who was protected by the CIA. Blandon was eventually convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to time served, but upon his release was given a salaried job working for the DEA....lol

Gary Webb uncovered and documented many of the connections in 1996 while working for a California newspaper. Because of Webbs work, Ricky Ross sentence was converted in federal court from life imprisonment to 20 years.

Oliver North gets pardoned and gets his own TV show, and Ricky Ross goes to jail for 20 years. Now he wants his own TV show...which only makes sense right?

Good for him. I saw the "American gangster" episode on him. he seemed like a really bright guy who just made bad choices. He had invest a ton of his money into a community center or something before he got popped. hes probably going to want to go back once he sees how tore up Cali is.
