Help, Please!

I really hate to ask, as I like to find these things out on my own, but I am unable to find the tutorials i am looking for.

I have photoshop elements 5. I am trying to learn a few things:

1-How to draw lines, both straight and curved
2-I use magic extractor and I am really bad with it. Is there an easier way to remove a image?
3-How do you get that faded look? Where one part of the image is solid and fades elsewhere?

I apologise for the questions. I have been attempting to do this myself, but unless I'm not looking in the right places, I just can't find what I need.
