    First Collecting Experience?

Was reading the Thread about the packs in the dollar store and it got me to thinking about my early days of pack collecting. What and when was your first pack, box, or anything in general experience with cards?

Mine would have to be going into the card shop that isnt there anymore and getting 2 packs of SP Authentic 1993 when they first came out. back when you would look at the odds of inserts on the back of the packs. I did open some boxes of 91-92 pro-set as well. I still have my first big insert pull. 1994 Action pack Steve Young 24kt Gold.

I loved getting as many grant hill cards as possible. That was when I was REALLY into cards, I was 7 years old when he was drafted. Then I pulled a few Vince Carter cards and traded them for some crazy cool cards, one was a 97 UD Game Jersey of Barry Sanders. BV 300 at the time. I also remember pulling a Dan Marino HoloGold #/50 out of a retail pack from target and traded it for a Grant Hill Autographics and a few other smaller cards. Man the FUN days when they had card shows every weekend.

I remember being 4 or 5 and bugging my older brother to get the 5000 ct box out of the top of my closet just so I can look at my Marino RC.... my dad collected and my brothers did off and on...

My first cards were a stack of 1979 Topps baseball cards that was given to me by one of my old buddies. I just threw them into a box and didn't even think about them for several years. Then in 1981, while visiting my cousin in Seattle, I went to a sports shop where this guy was sorting Fleer cards. I saw the Rickey Henderson and begged my dad to buy me the card. He ended up buying me the set and from then on, I was hooked.

I'm sure I bought packs here and there since 1981, but the first set I remember building from packs was the 1983 Topps baseball. Still my favorite set of all-time.
