PLAYER NOTES - See more here
--RW Loui Eriksson is coming off a 36-goal season but had been quiet before Friday. He finally broke the drought midway through the first period with his first goal of the season.
--LW James Neal went (gasp) goal-less for the first time this season on Friday. Not that he still didn't find a way to contribute. Neal had a secondary assist on Loui Eriksson's goal.
--D Stephane Robidas is always a gamer, but he was especially strong on Friday. Robidas had two assists and finished plus-5 for the night against Calgary.
--RW Jere Lehtinen has missed the first two games with a hip/groin injury. Lehtinen, however, is on the Western Canada trip, is skating well in practices and could play Sunday against Vancouver.
--G Roberto Luongo bounced back from being pulled in Monday's loss to Columbus by stopping 27 of 28 shots in a 7-1 romp over his hometown Montreal Canadiens. While Luongo had plenty of goal support, he did have to be good early in the second period after facing just four shots in the first. Montreal had the first 14 shots of the second period and Luongo stopped all but one, a sharp-angle shot from Tomas Plekanec he'd probably like back. But he did make a handful of highlight-reel stops, including one off Mike Cammalleri on a power play before the Canucks broke it open, and generally looked far better than the goalie who produced a .820 save percentage and 4.55 goals-against average in the first three losses.
--C Henrik Sedin is supposed to be the passer in the family, but on a night when he kept the puck on a 2-on-0 rush with Steve Bernier to score his second goal of the game in a 7-1 romp over Montreal on Wednesday, it was identical twin brother Daniel Sedin who finished with three assists. Daniel, who has always been the finisher in the family, has yet to score this season, while Henrik already has three goals in four games. "I've always said he's as good a playmaker as anyone in this room, but it's always been him in scoring positions the last couple of years," Henrik said of Daniel. As for keeping the puck on a 2-on-0, Henrik, a pass-first center who has always been encouraged to shoot more by the Canucks' coaching staff, said he planned his move as soon as he got over the blue line.
"Having Steve there was key," Henrik said. "(Montreal goalie Carey Price) thought I was going to pass for sure, so it was nice to see him bite."
--C Ryan Kesler, who was under the media microscope for having just one assist and being minus-3 through the first three games while anchoring the second line, finally broke through with a goal and two assists, finishing plus-2, a much more acceptable stat line for a guy who last season was a finalist for the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward. "It felt like everything was going in and rightfully so," said Kesler, who seemed to get a boost when speedy Mason Raymond replaced Sergei Shirokov on the line. "We've been working hard and it's finally good to get rewarded."
