New Michael Jackson song released
New Michael Jackson song released
A brand new song by Michael Jackson was released on the late singer's Web site early Monday.
However about 45 seconds of "This Is It" did the rounds online Sunday after being leaked ahead of its scheduled release on Michaeljackson.com.
"This Is It" will be followed by a two-disc album with the same title on October 26.
The album features music that inspired the film "Michael Jackson's This Is It," which is scheduled for release October 28.
I'm surprised it took this long...

oh, i already made that remix
but i know what you're saying....tupac sold 6 million albums while alive, and has sold over 30 million since he died...and it seems he has a new album out every year...but tupac recorded something like 400 songs in his 4 years as a professional entertainer (not to mention filming 6 movies), which is unreal
no doubt michael jackson has tons of recorded material that wasn't released and will be in the future...will.i.am from the black eyed peas talked about songs he worked on with michael for a dance album, and then there's this article about him having over 100 unreleased songs he recorded for his children

It used to be posthumous albums came from tracks recorded for albums, but then not used. Now, I think record companies hold some tracks aside for this type of thing.

interesting theory, but i disagree...do you have any specific examples that you can think of, or is this just a hunch?
no record company is going to withhold a song that they feel would be a hit record while an artist is alive in hopes of releasing it whenever the artist dies...because it really doesn't matter...famous musicians music is going to continue to sell when they die whether they have unreleased material or not
besides tupac, who has had more music released since he died than while he was alive, there isn't any other artists i can think of that has had lots of "new" music...tupac i believe is the exception because of his production style...you're never going to see a famous music artist again with as much unreleased material as him
my all time favorite rapper biggie smalls has had 2 posthumous albums, both being horrible remix albums of used & unused verses set to new instrumentals (way to go puffy!)...his 2 albums that he made while he was alive are considered legendary hip hop records, while the 2 posthumous albums were scraps of unfinished tracks, songs that couldn't hold the weight of the ones that did make the album, and freestyles...the most anticipated unaltered release from biggie in the last 12 years would be his 3 track demo tape, which was finally released this year.
aaliyah, who died way too young in a plane crash back in 2001, has had only 2 compilation albums since she passed, neither of which contained very much unheard music and were basically greatest hits albums with a couple of tribute tracks
big L was another rapper who had one of the greatest posthumous albums i've ever heard (in terms of music quality, not sales), but it was essentially a finished album before he died and just had delayed release for almost two years
i think we can both agree that songs on most posthumous releases are there for a reason...because the songs weren't considered good enough by the artist while they were alive to be released

Nah, he should do a duet with Shannon Hoon, another guy with a feminine voice.

Oh it's just a hunch. And I don't mean a hit per se. Maybe just a good filler song that wouldn't stand out on an album that already has a few hits on it. And obviously they're not going to say "Hey Mike, this is a pretty good song, we're going to save it for an album after you die." But if there are some pretty good songs that don't make it onto an album because they don't fit with the rest of the songs or whatever, maybe they set them aside for release later...and what better later time than when they pass away. I don't think it's this big huge conspiracy, but just something in the back of the minds of record execs.

yeah, and with the record companies operate today with all the promotion and such, they turn what was a weak filler song into a hit record...i could definitely some shady record exec like tommy mottola thinking that way, but definitely going to hold something back that should've made an album in the first place
yeah, michaels music was incredible...wait no longer, here you go
