    It was incredible, sorry I thought it was about copycats like the title says...

    Red never said they invented the "wildcat" just that other teams were incorporating it into their playcalling (copying) after seeing how successful the Dolphins were.

    Good points by Crowder and Brown. That is really what any offense is about. Your 11 guys beating their 11 guys. It doesn't really matter if it's the wildcat, west coast, power I, run & shoot, etc.

    Although the Dolphins have been doing it for more than a year and you have to prepare and expect it when facing them, the problem defensive coordinators and defenders face is that it is not something you see game in and out and therefore it is not instinctual to defend nor is it schemed. The more teams that incorporate it into their offense will eventually lessen it's effectiveness. Right now, if you are only going to see these offensive formations once a year you really don't plan your defensive scheme with that as a focus. Defenses now have to do that the one or two weeks prior to facing the Dolphins and rely on what was spoke of before: the defending 11 just being better football players. Schemes can and will always be a factor but anything can be offset having the right players.
