flu shots
my girlfriend wanted to give our kids flu shots, and i was opposed...last year i talked to their doctor, and he said that flu shots aren't necessary, but they offer them to all of their patients
my mom is a registered nurse, and never took me to the doctors when i was a kid and got sick...instead she kept me home and i rested, took vitamin c, and ate soups...now i'm 27 and i almost never get sick...i dont have any facts, just a feeling that my body fought off disease naturally when i was young and is now better prepared to defend against flus and such
i was talking to my mother last week and she was telling me how the day before she was required by her job to receive a flu shot as all nurses were required to...and then she felt sick the very next morning...she said it's ridiculous how her job requires her to put something into her body that she doesn't want to (flu shots) but won't let her put something into her body that she does want to (such as cannabis)...my mom gets sick even less than i do, but then again she eats a lot healthier than i do
she was also saying how doctors over-prescribe antibiotics for illness, and that well they are helpful, you should only take them when absolutely necessary...she says if you take them too often for things you don't really need them for, then your body will build up an immunity to them and then they don't work effectively when you really need them...obviously there are some vaccines and such that are mandatory, and i agree they are necessary (such as polio vaccine), but i also feel doctors try to "sell" other drugs to patients that aren't really necessary
i won the argument and the kids didn't get flus shots....but i just want to know if anybody knows of any good articles or information i can pass on to my girlfriend about this, because it's guaranteed to come up again next year

I don't have any articles for you, but I'm in exactly the same boat. My wife works in a doctor's office, so she had to get one, and she got them for our kids (my 2 year old actually got the mist instead of a shot, but same thing). She wanted me to get one, but I won't. I never get the flu...only 1 time in my life that I can remember. And I know the one time I do get the shot will be the one time I end up getting the flu. I get one, sometimes two allergy flare ups every year, but that's it. And I'm like you, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I've never been quick to take medicine.
The antibiotics being overly prescribed is a proven fact. Diseases mutate and adapt to medications and giving out antibiotics for every little thing only causes that to happen faster and will cause major problems later on. I don't think it's so much doctors "selling" the medication to them as the patient basically demands some type of treatment and that's the easiest thing. Most people who go to the doctor nowadays won't accept rest and orange juice as a valid treatment, they want some kind of medication to work quicker. So the doctor appeases them with a round of antibiotics. In the end, that's only creating diseases that are stronger, more virulent, and more resistant to medications. I remember reading a few articles about that a long time ago, but I have no idea where they were from. I would think it shouldn't be hard to google though.

I'm getting my kids the flu mist as I have every year. If you google mayo clinic-flu a good write up will appear with good info.

You are lucky you don't live in Massachusetts and have a choice! The state government is 90% Democrat and so is the governor.

I didn't get flu shots for the longest until I was about 19 or 20 and got the flu, worst illness I've had. It was horrible. Since then I get the flu vaccine every year.
I'm currently in the healthcare field so I'm used to it.
In regards to the flu vaccine, yes you may experience flu-like symptoms after you get it. Many do and it last a few days. I feel it's worth it, not worth the risk of getting the illness.
Especially for children and older people 55 plus, they tend to have weaker immune systems are and more prone to getting the flu.
As for your moms issue with mandatory vaccines, it's really more to protect you if you're in the healthcare field. You are around so many sick individuals, why risk getting something like that.

I'm with you Red, I had the conversation with my mother in law a few weeks back about the regualr flu shots and then again few day's ago about the H1N1 shots .... after I showed her the article about the Government releasing all the companies that produce the H1N1 shot from any and all liability she was stunned and totally agreed with me.

Agree with Red as well, while i am 10 years younger i can only recal getting the flu once and it was because everyone in the house had it, it was unavoidable...
My mom gets her flu shot every year and gets the flu atleast once, its a joke, flu shots dont stop anythingHidden Content

I used to get sick a lot, and during that time I was always getting the flu shot. Now I dont get the flu shot and the only real sickness (other than allergies) in the past 4 years I've come up with was strep throat one time.
