Your own "Dream" Sports Card Store!
OK, If you were able to open your own Sports Card Store, how would you set it up to make it better than the rest?
What types of products would you sell? Any Promotions, game leagues etc? Have you seen anything cool in other card shops that you would try or improve upon?
Here are a few things I would do.
1. Start a wax pack club. Buy 10 pack and get the 11th at equal or less value FREE.
2. Start a wall of fame. Have a large bulletin board for pictures of my customers and their big pack pulls.
3. Have tables set up for trading and game play.
4. Set up a Play Station 2 with all the sports games. I think this will help get the kids into the store and maybe make a purchase.
5. One big goal would be to make sure I have the lowest prices in town and the best value for your money spent. Hey, I did say "Dream" Sports Card Store:)
So, what would you do with your store? I'd really like to hear your ideas.

I had a feeling this would be a question in peoples minds.
Why couldn't you have both? I know noone is going to get rich from owning a card shop. However, I see no reason the store couldn't make the customers happy and still turn a small profit. It's how you treat the customes, provide products they want at prices that are fair that should make the difference.
OK, let's say you only want to make enough money to pay all the overhead expenses and grow the diversity of products you carry.
How's thay?:)

At my local cardstore we have a Wall of Fame where people pictures get taken and hung up with there good pulls. Most cardshops are cramed and small I would open a huge shop just dedicated to this hobby. It would be impossible to fill, but this is a dream ya know LOL

I talked to my brother like 5 months ago on this issue lol. His mother in-law has alot of money, and i mean RICH, so i told him to ask her for start up money to start a hobby shop for the hell of it, but he looked it like it was a waste of time. seeing as he doesn't have to worry about money why waste time selling cards to people for little money, he made a good point, but this was a dream i wanted lol. sucks to be broke. But having a card shop is not profitable in the long run which is why you see alot of shops close down after a few years. Atleast here in miami it happens alot.

i would have lots of contests to win free cards from my personal box breaks but you have to spend a certain amount to enter also i would only mark up the prices enough to turn a small profit games like pack wars ,i would have a tv that had nothing but sports on it 1 free box of cards for every 5 purchased things like that make it worthwhile for people to be repeat customers, also have the numbers and addresses for the card companies available for customers so if they opened a box and didn,t get what the odds stated they could do something about it,or maybe i will just open up my fish bait and tackle shop worms are a hell of alot cheaper, take care spuds

I think the only way to run a profitabe card store these days would be to have half you business come via Ebay or some other on-line site. When I first started collecting (eek 20 years ago), I would go into my local card shop and see the same face every week. Now it is hard to even find a cards shop. The low overhead of running an internet business has really changed the way the hobby works. I don't know I used to love my local card shop.
