    White Envelope!? Opinions Needed

Well once again I was hit by the dreaded White Envelope.

I purchased a Marc-Andre Gragnani Champs Red Back Mini Auto, which are pretty limited, and a rare card (unlike his regular auto)

    I won the auction for $1.77 + $2.90 shipping.

You think with $2.90, you could at least ship in a bubble mailer

My question is would you still leave positive, or leave neutral

The card did arrive in good shape, or else he'd be getting a negative.

Feel free to share your opinions!

I'd give a positive, but mention in the feedback about the white envelope. The card got there ok, right? Thats the seller's responsibility. If he wants to gamble, sooner or later it will catch up to him and ruin his reputation. Until then, just politely warn others, but give him a positive. Sellers, at least in this hobby, talk to each other depending on how big they are, and generally do not like people who are too trigger happy with the negatives, especially when there was no problem with the card.

Thanks for the input. That's what I did last time, but that was because I was only charged $1 for shipping, and it was just a low end insert, this is a limited auto, and I was charged $2.90 for shipping, so that just irritates me

If the card came in good shape, I would leave a positive. I'd nail him on the stars (shipping charges he'd get a 2.... maybe 1) and I'd write PWE in the feedback.... though then you run the risk of retaliatory feedback. The stars are anonymous.

I did hammer him on the stars, gave him a 1 for shipping charges, because charging $2.90, then using a white envelope is just unacceptable in my opinion

You are technically right, but a lot of sellers use shipping as a way to guarantee a minimum return after fees and actual shipping costs. You knew the shipping cost ahead of time, so by bidding you were acknowledging that you were ok with that total price for the given card in the described condition. IMO $5 for a card is $5 whether it is .01 cents for the card and 4.99 or 5.00 for the card with free shipping. I remember when X box 360 first came out people were selling it for $10 with shipping set at $299. It's just another way for the seller to try to beat the Ebay system, in the end though, the price what you are willing to pay in total.

Also, you have to remember that eBay doesn't have rules like we do here, where they are required to send in a bubble mailer :(

I would leave either a neutral or positive. But like mentioned above, I would mention in the feedback about the PWE.

The other day I got a card in a PWE.. and was charged $3 in shipping... and the card was damaged

That is what I have done in the past. I leave poistive feedback and nail him on the stars. It kills me when they charge $2.50 or more for shipping and you get a PWE with a .42 stamp on it.
