If you want to create a new card from scratch, you go to file, and new and type in the deminsions (250x350, 350x250, etc...) Then, you can add a picture from your file from file, open as layers. You can use the resizing tools from your tool box to help get the photo in the right position. Then, you can add boxes or circles over top of the picture, and fill them in with the bucket icon on the tool box. And you can lower the opacity when on the bucket icon. And then for saving you go to file save as, select the file you want to save in (ie. desktop, pictures, etc...) and type in .jpg at the end of it if you are completly done with your design. If not, just save with out the .jpg and gimp will allow you to ccome back in and make change relatively easy. Hope this helps!
