PAC formed to push for BCS playoff
PAC formed to push for BCS playoff
A new political effort is afoot to reform to the NCAA Bowl Championship Series. Playoff PAC, a federal political action committee, was launched Monday by six men bound together by law school ties or work on Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign.
The new organization is "dedicated to establishing a competitive post-season championship for college football," according to a statement posted on the PAC's Web site www.playoffpac.com.
"To that end, Playoff PAC helps elect pro-reform political candidates, mobilizes public support, and provides a centralized source of pro-reform news, thought, and scholarship," organizers said in the statement.
Absolutely, 100% ridiculous.

Politics should have no part in sports whatsoever. A) I don't want politics influencing sports (any more than they already do), B) everyone hates how politicians and government handles just about everything, yet continuously ask them to get involved in more areas (not me!), and C) doesn't the government have one or two things that are a little more important than football? Once they figure out health care, taxes, the economy, the national debt, the deficit, national defense, a couple of wars, the Iran and North Korea situations, illegal immigration, and energy alternatives, I'll be ok with them taking a little time (just a little!) to discuss the BCS.

This is surprising because the BCS seems like exactly the type of exclusionary, non-sensical, beauracratic establishment the government would be trying to set up...

A. neither do I
B. i dont want them involved in a LOT of things, but they still do...nothing you or i wish for is going to change that
C. they are never going to figure out health care, taxes, the economy, the national debt, the deficit, national defense, a couple of wars, the Iran and North Korea situations, illegal immigration, and energy alternatives....so they might as well solve something easy like playoffs in college football
i agree with everything you are saying...but college football desperately needs a playoff, and if it takes congress getting involved, so be it...it blows my mind that it's 2009 and the most innovative thing the NCAA can come up with is another poll, the BS poll, to determine who plays for the title...tiger pimp, you & i could figure this out in one afternoon over lunch eating baloney sandwiches

Completely ridiculous indeed. The Gators should just be awarded the trophy every year, and everyone who doesn't like it can have their campus overrun by trigger-happy state militia jacked up on PCP. :)
