The Math Behind the High Rollers- 2009-10 Exquisite Style
By now, many of you have seen or at least heard or read about the group of high rollers in the Phillipines that go by Attyball23 on YouTube and eBay. They have broken HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of DOLLARS of Exquisite since it's original release and the latest has been no exception.
To be exact, a minimum of 42 cases. Currently, Blowout Cards has cases for $1,900, which is the cheapest I could find them for. On the comments section for their videos, they are asked where they get them, and they say various sources, none, factory direct. So let's assume this is true and the sellers provide a generous 10-20% discount. That would put the case price in the range of $1,520-$1,710.
So multiplied by 42 cases
Equals between $63,840 - $71,820 of product.

Nice analysis. With all the videos and online publicity, i have to wonder if part of the reason is for attention. Even with the almighty Exquisite product, the odds are overwhelmingly against you making the money back. Then you factor in the Ebay and paypal fees, (8.75% and 2.2% for over $10,000 respectively) and I can't see how they'd recoup even 3/4 of their original price. If they buy straight from UD (not impossible if they have a business acct, and I'd imagine business laws in the Phillipines aren't nearly as complex as in the US) the price per case drops significantly. If UD is like most manufacturers, they sell their products to companies at 35 - 60% MSRP.

No thank you for reading as it just gives more information out into the hobby. Sharing is what this community is all about.
I would be surprised om the MSRP. I agree with all the other points. I doubt the msrp is in that range. I am sure a dealer could answer to let us know for sure. If you find anything let us know. Thanks.

even if i had the money it would be sick to buy them online and ship them to Belgium.
it will cost me an extra €5-6000 (€1-$1.48) to get them to me and i should need to have a bussiness account.....................
maybe someone can try to contact an upperdeck distributor??????
all the address can be found on there site

I don't know of any card shops that would be willing to let us in on their numbers behind the counter, but owners I've met at shows that have retired say their typical markup was around 25-30%. I was liberal in my estimate, but I also assume that they're buying in bulk as a distributor instead of a local shop. The big boys like Dave and Adams probably have such high inventory turnover that they get rock bottom distributor rates. Again, it's all speculative. Like magicians, they'll never reveal their secrets.
I love the article by the way. The same premise holds true for the average Joe busting a couple boxes a month. The money shelled out never comes back. If collectors are in the hobby just to make money, they might as well buy lottery tickets.

Even most owners buy from distributors at a markup. With the number of cases attyballs buys off distributors he probably gets very low mark up rates. I'd think he is getting 30% if not more off MSRP.

great point exactly on the average box buster. For me I see pack busting as entertainment with some gamble involved. The chance of pulling that big hit is why people mainly bust packs. I haven't busted a pack in about 10-12 years, but **** it was fun.
I also agree with the point that the exquisite busters LOVE the attention. Most people see the MJ/Lebron auto and get all worked up over that pull, but they don't see the mass amounts of bust pulls. Being a high roller is a lot of the reason why high rollers roll high. lol
