    Smyth makes Olympic case

If getting on the Canadian Olympic team is as much about getting points as making points with the selectors with inspired play, Ryan Smyth is doing both in the first month of auditions.

Of all the players on the bubble for the group of 13 forwards, Smyth has made the biggest early impact. He's got 14 points with the Los Angeles Kings, playing on a line with Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams, which puts him in the top five in the league scoring.

If he makes he could be a candidate fro the captain. He has been a key player in several of the World Championships in the past.

Ever since "who makes it" has been a topic of conversation, I've maintained that I would take Smyth.... and not Doan.

smyth > doan - easy as that.
if they are going to take one, they should take smyth. they need a player like smyth in front of the net...you can't beat goalies like thomas, lundqvist, etc. w/o someone screening in front.

although it wouldn't bother me if they didn't take him - he's 33 and could use the break so he's strong for the Kings, and frankly, I don't want Canada to win :)

    lol.

Is this an appropriate time to bring up the fact that I'm hoping the NHL pulls out of the Olympics after this year? Smyth doesn't need a break.... he just needs a schedule that isn't as condensed.

at 33, i'd rather have him take 2 weeks off than play in a tournament. good for kings, good for USA.
but you're right, if the schedule wasn't condensed it wouldn't be as bad.

I think it would be good for Canada and good for Smyth to get one more time in the Olympics.....with that said, I HOPE he doesnt play on Team Canada....I agree with Dave - He will need the rest for the end of the season and the playoff ride!!!
