CNN Smear Machine Breaks Down. Fake Outrage backfires

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew...nt-hotel-owner

CNN has been on a permanent pro-hispanic Crusade for quite a while now. You cant go to CNN.com without finding some irrelevent story about Hispanics that attempts to put non-issues in the mainstream. They use their typical Fake outrage over things that they deem as racist towards mexicans. It seems that CNN fails to realize the difference between Black people and Mexicans. Black slaves were chained and brought here against their will. They were victims of slavery. Mexicans want to be here. CNN seems to veiw this story in the same way they view Kunta Keentay from Roots. Remember, he was whipped because he wouldnt say his name was Tobey. He was making a real stand against Oppression. The guy in this story is not a victim of anyone or anything. CNN seems to think he is being persecuted because....he has a job during a recession? he is legally paid? he is up for promotion? what?.....Oh, but he has a right to be called by his Hispanic name. Oh, the racism.....Too bad rick sanchez is not rick sanchez's real name. OOPS!! It appears that CNN is racist. LOL.

    nice kunta kinte reference....

i dont know how i feel about this story...for one, i think an owner of a business should be able to hire & fire who he wants, and make whatever legal demands of his employees he wants (i doubt anglicizing names is illegal)....that said, i also think employees should be able to go by their birth names if they want, and shouldn't be forced to be called anything other than what their mother named them unless THEY choose...in the NY Daily News article, it says Whitten fired some employees for insubordination, but it isn't really clear if this is because they wouldn't change their names.

as far as cnns outrage, that velez lady should probably refine her interviewing technique...rolling your eyes on camera doesn't do anything to garner support...whitten was just trying to explain himself, and she doesnt have to agree with him, but her job is to just ask the questions....rick sanchez, HE changed his name, not cnn...if he feels like its out of respect for this country, good for him, it's his choice....but people from every culture in the world live in america, and i get through my day just fine talking to Aziz, Mahfouz, Daniela, Vitaly, Natalia, Franz & Chen

i would've liked to see a spanish guy buy the hotel and start changing peoples names....your name is no longer phil, it's felipe...your name is no longer anthony, it's antonio...your name is no longer ed, it's eduardo....your name is no longer mike, it's miguel

That would only make sense if the Hotel was in Mexico. If it was, and i needed a job, thats fine. Call me whatever you want. Sanchez is still a dolt. Its just funny that personal experience allowed reality into CNN's world. they were all confused and had no idea what to do.

why would it only make sense if it was in Mexico? The US has no official language, even though english is spoken by almost everybody...however, spanish is the second most common language in the US, and has the fifth largest spanish speaking population behind only Mexico, Spain, Argentina & Columbia.

also, just because you may be fine with your boss calling you whatever, doesn't mean everybody else is...sometimes self-integrity is more important than job security

From personal experience I understand when spanish people accepting white names because I have so many relatives that do this. I think they had to do this back when they first started school or might have changed it on their own to fit in. I've heard many different stories for both sides. My uncle Arturo uses "Bobby", my Great Grandmother Chole is "Shirley". I even had an uncle change his last name from Manriquez to Manrique because his wife said losing the Z made it sound less spanish and more italian or something. Besides that I have a lot of friends that choose to use nicknames instead of their birth name like Frankie=Francisco, Alex=Alejandro, George=Jorge, Jamie=Jaime (pronounce Hi-May) even a Martin=Martin w/ Accent. If a person asks "May I call you George, Jorge?" Its not like your asking them to change it. If it is done in some kind of condescending way then I think it should be discussed openly and expose the bigot. This whole name thing is irrelevent though.
