You should send a check instead of cash. At least then you have some proof if he got the item or not. Also, if a player just throws the items out, you don't lose the cash.

This has really been something I've considered heavily but I always go back to the old school mantra of "Cash is King". I mean if I were a big time athlete I would never accept checks. Checks involve going out of my way and paperwork. Cash can go from the envelope to my pocket for 4 seconds worth of work.

That said the major downside of sending cash, as you have pointed out, no matter what the outcome is you are out that money where with a check you can cancel it after some time and no bubbles no troubles.

That said there are certainly times when I think checks are appropriate and one of those times is the ball+fee I sent Yogi Berra because it is c/o his museum. I sent that out cash in a rush the other day and have been kicking myself in the *** every moment since.

I agree with your "cash is king" concept, but if the bigtime athelete has gotten to the point where he's opened your envelope, he's probably decided already if he is going to sign or not. I've sent checks to at least 50 guys, and every single item has come bac. Of course, a majority of the guys I go after are oldtimers.

Time to update guys.... We have lost so many HOFers in the last two years its rather Sad.

Doerr, Harvey, Herzog, Dawson, Ford, Perry, Jenkins, Fingers, Gossage, MacPhail, Gillick, Kaline, Weaver, D.Williams, Irvin, and Niekro seem to be the ttm foundation with solid returns for varying fees.

Carlton, Berra, B. Robinson, Killebrew, Bench, Fisk, Jackson, Ryan, and Carter all have foundations or companies to purchase autos.

Rice, Musial, Schoendienst, Sandberg, Yount, Sutton, Boggs, Perez, Banks, Lasorda, Bunning, B.Williams, and Kiner are all guys that can be had every so often if you time it right. Success isn't as common or easy as those above but isn't shocking either.

Koufax, Schmidt, Winfield, Mazeroski, Brett, Cepeda, Palmer, and Eckersley are guys that have been heard to ttm but its not all that common and people usually notice. Palmer and Eck were solid at one time.

The rest aren't likely to sign unless I missed somebody. Fees and addys are 99% in the ttmm. Guys like Koufax, Schmidt, and Mazeroski take time and homework. Good luck!

Doerr, MacPhail, Banks, Bunning, Harvey and Gillick all sign for free with varying return times. Morgan also signs for free but 90% of the time will return a signed index card for you.

Herzog, Dawson, Ford, Perry, Jenkins, Fingers, Gossage, Rice, Kaline, Weaver, Irvin, and Niekro are solid returns for varying fees.

Carlton, Berra, B. Robinson, Bench, Fisk, Jackson, Blyleven, Ryan, and Carter all have foundations or companies to purchase autos. Due to cancer Carter is currently not signing though.

Musial, Schoendienst, Sandberg, Yount, Sutton, Molitor, Alomar, Boggs, Perez, Lasorda, B.Williams, and Kiner are all guys that can be had every so often if you time it right. Success isn't as common or easy as those above but isn't shocking either. Schmidt used to be had once every blue moon on a HOF PC(kind of like Morgan ICs) but seems to have gone to a ghostsigner who will scribble on anything. Be careful what you send him if you want to take a shot.

Koufax, Winfield, Mazeroski, Brett, Cepeda, Palmer, Smith and Eckersley are guys that have been heard to ttm but its not all that common and people usually notice. Palmer and Eck were solid at one time.

The rest aren't likely to sign unless I missed somebody. Fees and addys are 99% in the ttmm.

    How's that?

This is great info. Unless he has stopped, Stan Musial will usually send an autographed postcard for free. He will also sign TTM for a fee. http://www.stan-the-man.com/Customer...-Items-C6.aspx
