    Nylander Put on Waivers

    Nylander Put on Waivers
    By The OFB Team

    7 November, 2009
Michael Nylander has been put on waivers, Capitals Insider reports. This means the veteran Swede has agreed to waive his no-movement clause. Any team can claim him until noon Monday, but if no GM picks him off the wire it’s still no guarantee he’ll be put in the minors, writes Tarik. The Capitals are trying to free up some cap room in similar fashion to what Pittsburgh did last year with struggling forward Miroslav Satan.

It's no surprise that Washington is looking to get rid of him. That's what they tried for the past 2 years but his age and salary are major turn-off for almost every teams.

A young team like NY Islanders should get him, that would be good for guys like Okposo , Tavares , Moulson , Bailey

Going to be tough to accomplish anything with him collecting $5.5M a year.

If the Caps want him gone, their best bet would probably be to send him down and then put him on re-entry waivers, see if someone will take him if the Caps still pick up half the tab. Otherwise just send him to Hershey - you'll lose the cash but none of the cap hit will apply. From a business standpoint that's a huge waste, but their options are really limited.
