A couple questions about getting started
Hey guys/gals just a couple questions about getting started.
1.How does the manage inventory thing work on here?
2.Would it be best to keep using the beckett my organize system or use the manage inventory program on this site, as i think i will be on this site way more often than beckett seeing how many members there are here and how many are currently online.
3.Can I transfer the stuff in my organize to the manage inventory? (i know stupid question but i can hope can't i?)
4.Is there any special process that needs to be done to make a trade here like on beckett?
5.Is there any tips or pointers that i should know right away?
Thanks for your time everyone i appreciate any and all help

Welcome to SCF! I hope I can help you out a bit. I've never used the inventroy system on SCF, but the way I display my cards for trade is on photobucket.com and I have my want list on freewebs.com. I believe a few members also use Beckett for displaying their inventory as well.
For making trades on SCF all of the trades go through the Trade Manager. Here is a very useful link on how to use the Trade Manager:
https://www.sportscardforum.com/showthread.php?t=495775
As for tips and pointers, the first thing I recommend is introducing yourself here: https://www.sportscardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=128 Other than that, sending with bubble mailers as opposed to plain white envelopes is highly recommended. If you break any boxes, I recommend sharing your results and any scans/pics in the box break section of the hockey forum on SCF. Finally, I think once you have 10 or 15 posts, you'll be able to see the links to everybody's buckets in their signatures and we'll be able to see yours if you have a link in your signature.
Hope this helped

Regarding our inventory system, it was there when I came on the site in 2008. Mainly it's not used much because it's too long to enter card one by one. and like mentioned most user use photobucket and list either on a post or on a free site.
Now being the main programmer here on SCF all I can say is that we intend to code a new inventory application that will be far more efficient. The owner already announce our SCF OPG (online price guide), It was coded by Harry and two other programmer. The OPG is done coding wise but we are working on gathering data and should be live next year. Now having a online OPG also mean having sets checklist. Those will be used to create a inventory system sometime next year. It will use set list to let you add cards to your inventory, no card name typing, page that let you add card from a set in 1 click, no typing. Later you can add image per card and it will create your trade list, pc list, photobucket.
It will be a fast way to enter card. I coded the same logic on my site and was able to enter over 40,000 cards. I uploaded over 1500 images associated to my card inventory. I created a photobucket like page to show cards that have image only. The bucket use my card attribute to show them as GU, RC, PC or AUTO.
We have ton of plan coding wise to bring to our member a full range of applications that will let collector manage their inventory manage a store front, manage a player collection, Prices, eventually team manager as well. The inventory system will have a import feature but like any importing feature it really depend in what format you have a inventory. but it should be in the plan. Because we will need to match card with our OPG some set name may differ thus making a importer even more difficult to code but I will do my best to add feature to make it work as best as possible.
I can't commit on a time line but early 2010 is realistic for a new inventory system and much more. 2010 will be a exciting year for SCF. 2009 was a year where all major new projects started, now they are coming to life in developpement and soon will be made available to member when ready. Some module will require a monthly subsciption but the plan is the the inventory system will be free to use by members. In all case each module will have test period where member will help us test them so even module that will require a subsciption should be made free for some time to help us gather imformation on how to make it better.
Stick around and what you wish should all be here in the coming year.
Does your current ineventory on the other site, let you export your inventory into a file???
If so, send me a PM, maybe you can show me a example of how they let you export your current inventory so I can take it into account when I create the card inventory importer.
