Yea. I'm not looking to collect all of his cards. Just a few of the more recent GU/Autos would be a good start. I have a few of his cards from the mid 90's.
I actually still have around 750 or so of my old cards. They range from 1989-1997, But most of them are 1993-1996. UD, UD-Collectors Choice, UD-SP, Fleer, Parkhurst, Premier, Topps, etc. Sadly just about all of them are in poor-fair condition. They're all the cards I considered junk when I was like 11 or 12 years old.
About a week ago my Mother mentioned to me that she saw a big plastic bin full of Hockey cards in the basement. I completely forgot about them, I didn't even know I still had them. They have been down there for over 10 years. I was extremely bummed out to find them without a lid, and with tons of heavy books all piled on top of them. The books are what really trashed them, but I'm not about to blame her for it. I didn't take care of them like I should have, Its my fault. The moisture got to them too and half of them were stuck together. But a fair amount of them are still in pretty good shape. I've gone through them all and boxed them all up tightly to restore their shape. Some of them are creased, but some are just out of shape. They definitely don't have that new card smell anymore, but they don't smell bad. They're salvageable to an extent. To keep, not to sell or trade. I'm going to go through them again at some point and separate them by brand. I've got the Rookies and a couple Inserts in different rows, but they're mostly Premier, Fleer, and Collectors Choice Rookies. Not really worth anything.
The cards I valued were all Inserts, Red Wings, and the Popular/Well-Known players of the mid-90's. I never had any Auto's. Those were pretty rare in the mid 90's. You had to have the card signed by the player yourself. They didn't even have GU cards back then. I had a pretty decent collection and I took good care of them. I bought most of my cards at the only hobby shop in town, which has long been out of business. Many of them had some good value to them at the time according to Beckett. As far as I know most of them aren't worth much today, if anything.
Unfortunately, when I was 14 or 15 I gave them all to my Older Brother. Hes 26 and I'm 23. He has them stored somewhere and he won't get them out to let me look at them. Probably because he doesn't want to give them back. I think he wants to keep them stored until he grows old. All attempts to reclaim them have failed, but I'm not done trying yet. I may offer all my Paintball stuff for them and maybe his old schwinn bicycle. But they might be mixed in with his own Hockey card collection and it would be difficult to separate them now.
I probably wont ever get them back. Its actually kind of depressing. I've long since regretted giving them away. I'm a very nostalgic person. Those cards are sentimental to me.
