Iginla scraps rumour

MONTREAL -- Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla denied having challenged the whole Montreal Canadiens bench during Tuesday night's 1-0 win.

The red-hot rumour making the rounds on the Internet, and amongst the Montreal media, is that Iginla told Habs players in the heat of battle during what was at times a contentious game, "Anybody has a problem, see me any time."

Former Flames defenceman Joel Bouchard, who was Iginla's roommate in the early stages of their careers, was between the benches during the game and reportedly said on the RDS broadcast Iginla said he'll take on all comers.

"No, no, no," Iginla pleaded after yesterday's practice. "I think he misheard that. I think I might have said Grats, not me.

That is the most bogus thing I've ever heard. Not surprising coming from an RDS broadcaster trying to create a stir. Kind of like Spector from SportsNet writing a complete misquote in his article about the Jarome vs. Souray incident, writing Jarome said, "I definitely meant to do it", which was completely false. Whats with everyone going after Jarome these days? Doesn't his rep with the players and fans speak for itself?

I've done it before, but I can't see Jarome saying anything like that. It's not like him.

Even if he did, who cares? This is a non-story story. Jarome is awesome, and it's not like he's one to shy away from physical confrontation during a game.

Ya I cant imagine him saying anything like that either. Only someone like Avery or Boogaard would do that.
