Grading Service at Shows
I'm thinking about getting a couple cards graded at a show next weekend. BGS is going to be the company at the show. Do they grade and slab the card right there, or do they have to mail it back to you?

From what I've seen on ebay, they put your card into a card saver and put a beckett label or sticker on top sealing it with the grading info. Then I think you can send your card them to have it encased in the beckett holder. Hopefully someone else will have some better info for you.

I got some cards graded the previous show, and it took up to 2 months before I got my package... but they do have a grading service where they don't slab it. but grade it and return it to you the same day.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just be sending in what I have and save myself a trip, since I was only going to be going to the show for the grading service.

Ok. One more question. Which company should I use BGS or PSA?

bgs are generally harder graders, but if you get a high grade it will definately sell for more then psa.

BGS vs. PSA: depends on the era the card is from.

That does help massmetfan. Booyahlaw, they are vintage cards. A couple for the early 40s and one from 58.

Well, I'm far from an expert in grading since I've only had one card graded...and I might even be replying a bit late, but basically from what I've learned, BGS is your better bet for more current cards. If you're looking at vintage, then PSA is the way to go.
BGS is definately a bit more strict on things. I had one graded at the Nationals in Cleveland and it was a 2008 Flacco Contenders. I ended up getting a good grade, but they were very, very touch on the centering and corners, but still came back a 9.5. I know they consider that, or 10, Gem, so it would sell much better than it would even from PSA.
As for how they work things with grading...they graded my card for $25 same day. I dropped it off at like 9am, had it back by 2pm. Just have to drop off the card early to get same day grading. (Plus it was $2 extra to get the auto graded.)
But PSA would be your best bet since you're looking vintage.
