New to Collecting - Some Questions

    Hi,

After many years since I was a collector as a kid I have just taken my first step towards becoming a serious collector and bought my first box of cards. I purchased a box of Upper Deck-Series One and had some questions I hope you may be able to answer. I am new to collecting and I hope that I'm not breaking any rules on the forum.

    1) Is there any way to purchase specific rookie/All World/Draft Day Gem packs or are we supposed to keep buying boxes in hope of getting lucky or buying them singly on Ebay, etc.

    2) In this specific series I got a checklist that says that Letang is #48, but my Malkin cards are labeled #48.

    3) What's up with this series not having some superstar players like Zetterberg, Parise, Ovechkin in their respective teams? It seems weird that they are not included in the series.

    4) What’s the difference between the Series 1 and Series 2 cards? Is Series 2 just a reprint of Series 1 or a whole new set altogether?

    5) Just for comparison my box had 2 All World, 2 Brodeur hockey Heroes, 1 Face of the Franchise, 2 Season Highlights, 2 Top Guns, 1 Draft Day Gem as well as three lower rookie cards - Tavares, Leino, Kane and three from the second round. Also got a McCabe and Malkin jersey card. Good box? Normal Box?

I appreciate any feedback as I start collecting,
    Cheers

    1) Keep buying!

    2) Sorry, don't know about that one.

    3) Upper Deck is notoriously slow about changing team names and picturing players in their new uniforms.

    4) Whole new set.

    5) I'd say you had a pretty nice box.

Welcome to the wonderful world of hockey card collecting!

The Tavares and Kane are both very good cards. Probably, as far as YG's, 2 of the top 5 that you can pull.

    Nice Break!

    Thanks

Thanks for the quick responses. I guess I'll have to keep buying more boxes, it's pretty addictive, I just want to keep buying...

    Can anyone answer questions 2 & 3?

Why the checklist says that #48 is Letang (the UD website also says this), while my #48's are Malkin.

Also, I guess there is really no answer to why UD chooses who to put on the cards, just seemed weird to omit Ovechkin, Parise, Zetterberg as they are all superstar players.

    Cheers

    2) Upper Deck just printed off error's. Their QC didn't catch it.

3)They will more than likely be in series II. You can't put all the good eggs in one basket, and not make it worth our while to go after the second basket. At least this is one thing UD has figured out.

BTW nice Tavares. That made your box and then some.

Just to let you know the Tavares is seeling on Ebay for $75 to $100 hot card right now and I think Kane is selling in the $20 to $30 range??? not sure on this one.... So value wise you did really well, it's not often that you will make on a box. Congrats, great to return to the hobby
