Basic Question on UD Set 1

    Hey there,

I am fairly new in hockey card collecting. I like the plain base set cards. I was looking through the upperdeck 09 base set cards (the 198) and I noticed that many of my favorite players don't appear. For instance. Kovalchuk isn't on the Thrashers and Heatly isn't on the sharks, and almost all of my favorite Philidelphia Flyers are missing from the set. Why is this? I would greatly appreciate any info on how this works. Also, why is it called series one? How many series are they coming out with. Do the missing players come in the next series.

    Thanks for the help.

UD is put out in two series. they split the stars between the two series to ensure collector interest.

Being part of series 2 also means that traded player or free agents will likely appear in the jersey of their new team. Because of production times, traded players in series 1 usually feature last years team with a "traded to..." notation

They haven't done that in a long time. I don't recall seeing that one a single card in the last three years of release now.

You can probably bank on just about all of those guys showing up in Series Two. I believe there's even a pre-checklist available at Magazine Exchange.

You're right. traded players and free agents in UD1 usually appear in last years uniform but the team logo is the new team. Unless they get a press conference or studio shot with the player in the new threads

They did well this year with the Habs and all their departed players. None of the guys that left were in S1, and none of the new guys are either, but the S2 checklist has all of them with their new teams. I didn't pay a lot of attention to any of the other free agent signings, but I give UD kudos for doing that part right.
