Deceased Son's Collection Going for Good

A Colorado man and his son built a large collection of sports cards and memorabilia. Now, it's all being sold to help young people stay on the right path.

David Shortridge shared more than a name with his son. They both loved sports and collecting brought them closer together when a medical issue brought the younger man back to the Colorado mountains to help his father.
They amassed mountains of autographs, PSA-graded sports cards and hundreds of other items. After David Shortridge II died, the collection remained in boxes until a call from a local non-profit group. TEENS Inc was facing major budget trouble and its leaders were hoping the always charity-minded elder Shortridge might be able to help them. The 73 year-old did more than that.
This weekend, part of that huge collection the Shortridge men had amassed is being sold to help keep at risk young people out of trouble. All of it was donated to TEENS, which is selling some of it locally--and the rest through special online auctions.
"Some buyers are going to get great deals," Shortridge told the Boulder Daily Camera, which featured the generous gift in this story.
