    Can someone identify these?

    http://picasaweb.google.com/potvin48...12631018990594

I have 4 mask cards from 1997-98...Two of them have blue backgrounds all around, and two of them have silver on the top. These are not the die-cuts, but it almost looks like they're uncut cards that were supposed to be die-cuts...

    Anyone have any input?

    Thanks in advance!

You could be right. Based on the different variations showing on the Beckett website. The variations are:
    1997-98 Pinnacle Masks
    1997-98 Pinnacle Masks Die Cuts
    1997-98 Pinnacle Masks Jumbos
    1997-98 Pinnacle Masks Promos

Therefore, unless they are the promo card (which still wouldn't make sense to me), I think it's safe to assume they were meant to be die-cuts. Maybe somebody else can confirm or clarify that once collected these.

I could only find the same info. They look to me like they should have been die-cuts, but were never cut out.

The only set I ever remember that happening with though, was Donruss Elite (in 95-96 or 96-97??). Don't think I ever heard about Pinnacle having the same problem.

They're not the promos, those actually say promo on the bottom of the back (I have a few of those also)

Yes, it was the 95-96 Donruss Elite which had the famous uncut die-cuts.

I bought both of those on eBay from separate sellers...

Anyone else have any info on these?

My guess is they are left overs from when Pinnacle was liquidated. When Pinnacle went under in 1998 I think everything was sold off in lots, and then people broke up the stuff and sold it off piece by piece. Ebay is littered with type of stuff. Remember the 1996-97 Be A Player Die Cut autos of Lindros, Lemieux, and Messier? Those can be found by crate full unsigned and uncut.

So you think maybe these were scheduled to be cut, but never made it that far down the line?

There's a guy on eBay who has a lot of 1997 Pinnacle stuff, my guess is that's where he got it...
