PS3 YLoD - Any ideas?
No, I don't want to buy a Xbox, however any actual advice would be useful.
Thanks,
Me

What system do you own Bill? Repairs can be done on your own but the hassle to save roughly 40-50 bucks isn't worth it.

It's the PS3, Jay. I have seen it can cost about $70, found them on Craigs list. From what I read I get to keep all data on there and it comes with a warranty. The shop opens at noon (My time) and I will call then. Fingers crossed.
Other problem is that my Modern Warfare 2 disc is in there and don't want that ruined or lost/stolen.

This is why I always preach extended warranties to my friends and family. I purchased an Xbox 360 years ago (1st run) got the RRoD, fortunately I decided to go with the Best Buy extended warranty. Took it back to best buy and got another one, they even swapped out hard drives for me so I could keep all my saved items. well another year went by and that 360 got the RRoD ... WooooooT right back to Best buy, only this time I want my money back and want to purchase a PS3. Of course I picked up the extended warranty on it and havn't had to use it, but the good thing is I can take back the warranty the day before it expires and Best Buy will credit me the money back.
as far as your YLoD ... it looks like there are some fixes but I can't see them because they are on Youtube and it's blocked here at work.

JeRmz is right, there is a fix it yourself solution via video on youtube, however I'm not sure it's a permanent fix or not. Something dealiing with that thermal paste and a hot gun :) I think. I have a good online acquaintence that has done it more than once, and if you'd like I can put you in contact with.
My launch 60G is still going (knock on wood) but if I get the YLOD I would likely just spend the 150. As for save data, I just keep a usb stick in my ps3 permanetely and basically back up my saves every other time I turn it on.

Well I took it in to a local guy (Found him on Craigslist) and he fixed it for $70, with a 3 month warranty. Works fine now, fingers crossed.
