Cards....let us talk.....
Cards...let us talk about cards...
SO how is everyone's view these day of sports cards?
I've been around them for 20 + years. I think they have definitely evolved, devolved, and reinvolved....me...that is in the whole shabang in a brand new way...
I used to collect Elway and quit in 1999. That's when they really started making cards. I eventually sold off 2,000 + unique Elway cards but have to say this day is a new day...
I like many of the coolish designs. There's plenty to choose from. I've learned to be selective and content. I guess I've had a recent life swing so this has to be regarded as well. My glass is looking more than half full. Back from rambling....
Cards....what is your insight or thoughts....how about them Sweet Spot Helmet Autographs....aren't those sweet....if you're in it for the buck, it's easy to get disgruntled, but if you're a true collector, man is it ever the time to buy!
Maybe Beckett will actually list some of the older stuff, say 10 years ago, at what it's actually worth, let's say 10 % in lots of instances ?! Well, maybe next year of that wish, kinda like they say about the GAMECOCKS...and maybe just maybe Spurrier can lead them to an SEC championship and then perhaps, well....back to cards...
How's your collection looking? Are you up or down about cards?

Hey Christopher, not sure the site your talking about. I did talk to a Christopher through PM, for the Clemente Topps card.
Anyways....yeah it's fun to collect sets...little mini sets....team insert sets...I'm getting back into the hobby so I'm not where I'd like to be but that is A OK....I see the light.
Bout to wind down for the night but let's hear some more funny stories, some laughter, excitement, the intrinsic value of cardboard - harhar - or did I mix up some coins in my box.
Seriously they have some awesome cards these days. They go wrong in the rediculous pricing. No one can possibly keep up with an accurate value system across the board....they seem to be trying to beat the last thing put out and are running outta options....but I have FAITH they will endure....oh yea if they can glorify a card....they have the power that our infinite minds can't comprehend......one day we'll know it all, I only see in part.....oh my it's getting late......the economy will be back in no time! Get your _____________ . Well I can't disclose my secret investment yet. I remember the guy who knew Kobe before Kobe parents did, collected him.....ah I'm signing off, G- night !

For me, collecting is my hobby and strictly for fun. Love the GU and Auto stuff, but love the base and inserts as well.
I collect all Boston teams stuff, and will take dupes as well. So, my collecting shall never subside. it has slowed recently with the birth of my second child, and the economy tanking. I do still love the chase.
My current goal, is to trade away ALL of my non-Boston cards for Boston cards. I trade everything from base to Autos and all in between. Just love the chase of the trade for stuff I want.
So, I guess I am high on trading right now. And I can buy stuff pretty cheap.
I am also a UNH graduate (yep New Hampshire), and I collect anything of the guys who played football or hockey there. So, bring em on.
That is about it for me. Have anything I might be interested in, LMK. Thanks.Hidden Content
I collect Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and UNH Hockey and Football Players (Base/Inserts/GU/AU)
My PC NFT is exactly that, Not For Trade! It is for show only. So, please don't ask!
I unfortunately can no longer afford to trade outside of the US. Even Canada rates are way too high!

And for some reason I really love the Triple Threads in baseball this year. Don't know why. Just think it looks really cool.

Schwood- great story and sorry I don't have anything that would tweak your interest.
I haven't collected Zito yet but glad to hear the honesty :)
I knew a guy that like Tim Biakabutuka. Either he really thought the guy was going to pan out or there was another sentimental desire there. He had a good swagger though when it came to the pokes.
More card commentaries coming up?!

I've been at it a long time as well. It's been an interesting ride and I am scared and excited to see what is next for this hobby. With all of the drastic changes that have gone on in the last 10 years I don't know how it can keep topping itself without an implosion.
Over production is starting to show itself in card values and will eventually do so in box/pack prices. People are seeing more and more stuff in products and realized values less and less. Sure it's a great time to be a collector, but when it ceases to be lucrative for those that are in it just for the rip and flip, the manufacturers will feel the bite and scale back the price points.
My biggest joys now in the hobby are seeing the odd innovative card design and the occassional return to grass roots sets where creativity, good photography/artwork and set design play a bigger role than the flash of just throwing a sticker auto on a base card, inserting a memorabilia swatch of questionable origin or number stamping a card to give it perceived value.

Amen, Amen, Amen.
I always liked the Topps Gold Label design and quality.
The good outweighs the bad for me now in sports cards so that's a blessing.
