For the Flyers Fans
So this thread is for all us Flyers fans out there. Please don't come in here and bash on the Flyers. If you have something to say about them, then you're more than welcome to.
I am pretty sure that most of you are on the same with me when I say that the way the Flyers have been playing lately has been completely unacceptable. Honestly, I don't think that firing Stevens was the right move. He was a great coach. I understand that at the end of the day, all the blame falls on coach, but I don't think he is to blame for the poor play by the Flyers. They have just looked like a team that isn't passionate and doesn't care at all. They really need to light a fire under each other so that they can get back on track. Luckily, the season is early and there is still plenty of hockey to play. I'm positive they will turn it around, but I just hope that they will do it sooner rather than later so that they will enjoyable to watch again.

I hate seeing the Flyers like this, it's driving me nuts! Although I do think firing Stevens had to be done, he's not tough enough on the guys. I hope Laviolette (sp?) can do a better job. This team has a lot of potential....
Hope we can grab a win in Montreal tomorrow!l collect Philadelphia Eagles (NO VICK CARDS), Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Pistons, Detroit Tigers.

I agree with you that Stevens wasn't tough enough on them, but he was still a great coach. I think he was the best fit for them while they were still young and he obviously had a huge part in making Carter and Richards the world class players they are today. I think they needed a coach better suited to handle more mature players, and Stevens wasn't cutting it anymore. I just don't think Laviolette is the right fit. Hopefully I'm wrong and he really turns things around. I just hope he doesn't change their style to the point where they aren't a tough and very physical team anymore.

Although I am a Pens fan, I am not here to bash the flyers (although I hate them very much) I am just stating the facts. Sometimes you have to send a message to the players and what better message can a GM/owner send besides firing the coach. You got a heck of a coach in Laviolette. Remember how bad the Pens looked last December/January?? And see how that turned out.

Haha I had a feeling that you were going to post in this thread! I agree with you that firing a coach and then hiring another one is a good way to send a message to the players, I believe there are other ways to do so. Take the Sharks for example (I've lived in San Jose most of my life). Year after year they are a disappointment in the playoffs. What happens during this year's off season? Patrick is stripped of his C and it is given to Blake. The Sharks are looking better than ever and Patrick seems to have more passion than ever.
I'm not saying that Richards should be stripped of his C, but I'm just saying there are others ways to get the job done. I do believe that Laviolette is a great coach, but I'm just not sure how much he's going to fit in with the Flyers. Prove me wrong Peter!

I think the Flyers will pick it up...they need a boost of confidence with some goals and better goaltending...they make too many breakdowns on defense...and in transition the other teams capitalize with goals

Haha. I didn't bash so its all good? I think Emery has been part of the problem as of late. I think that Richards is a great leader but that could possibly be a great idea, but who knows. I thought their defense would be pretty good, but lately its just not good at all.

Emery was looking really good at the beginning of the year, but now that the team has hit a slump with scoring, it seems like he isn't trying ot pick up the slack by putting up great numbers by himself. I think Boucher is a great backup for us though and can do pretty well.
And yeah, I highly doubt they would take the C off of Richards. If they did though, I would like to see them place it on either Pronger or Briere. Pronger for obvious reasons. The reason I like putting it on Briere though is because whenever I watch him play, I see a lot of passion. He is one of the smallest players, but plays like he is as big as the biggest guys in the game. I love his style of play. I think he could also be a good leader.

Emery was pretty solid at the beginning of the year. Agreed. However, I would put it on Briere before Pronger.

I would put it on Briere before Pronger as well. I say Pronger because he has more experience than anybody else on the team and would be a good leader.
