Question about paypal
What is the benefit of sending it as a gift as opposed to the other ways? Is it to limit the liability of the seller, or to avoid fees or what?

It is both I believe. Seller doesn't get hit with fees and the buyer (I think) can't file a claim if they don't receive an item. If you trust someone or have dealt with the seller before its not a bad idea to send it as a gift. I know on larger purchases the seller sure appreciates it.

From a legal perspective, I know that you can send X amount of gifts a year and claim it tax free. I doubt it has anything to do with this though.
