Personnaly, I think it's a good adjustement. The Young Guns was overpriced in the last few years. I never understand why a RC card with no numbering, jersey or anything did book so high. I think these price are fair for plain regular RC.

I'm not defending Beckett here, just my humble opinion

Why are you guys surprised at this? People get all bent out of shape when they should just go by ebay values anyways. Beckett has been lost when it comes to hockey wince EJ Hradek and Al Muir left the magazine. They could CARE LESS what we think about the values they print. Stop buying their OPG and magazines and maybe something will change!

My subscription expires in 2 weeks and it will definitely not be renewed. I'm only one person but I suspect I will not be the only one taking this approach.

It is a surprise to an extent - as I've said many times they horribly, horribly botched their pricing on the Habs Centennial set, but that one is a pretty limited interest to Habs collectors--there's lots of us but it's more of a deep than wide interest. Not particularly forgivable among those of us that are Habs collectors, but something that many in the hobby couldn't really care less about. UD1 is the staple set of the year, probably the most important release not named The Cup. You would *think* that they'd do their research on a set of this magnitude. For those that use Beckett as much more than just a guide, imagine their response when they see Tavares slotted as it is only two weeks after they dropped $100 for it at their local card show. They'll be livid!

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

The problem is that the guide is supposed to reflect the market. If people are paying 2X, where X=what Beckett says the cards is worth, who is right, the people/the market or the institution that says the card is worth X? There have been scores of sales of the YG on the Bay - not one of them is lower than what Beckett lists as the HI value.

You're entitled to your opinion and I respect that, but they (Beckett) are so clearly in the wrong here that it's not even funny.

I understand that Beckett follow is own rule and I don't even think they look at eBay for their price. My Chelios Habs Inks is the perfect exemple. I don't really follow Beckett price anymore.
My point was more about the real value of the YG. I think these price are for what those RC represent. Maybe people are willing to pay almost 100 bucks on a Tavares YG because they know it will book 150. But Suprise!! this year beckett rolled you again!!

I'll try to get JT YG at this price at the show this week-end.

This is why you sell sell sell before pricing comes out. Then there are no worries :)

this was so very true up to about 10 years ago. then, this hobby became a business. then, Beckett saw that they could control the sports card industry by pricing cards at whatever they wanted the cards to be priced at (but why would they do that ?). The card manufacturers have no vested interest in this matter at all, they could care less...We all buy Beckett's stupid price guide each month even though Beckett no longer listens to collectors. I think people only buy it to see if they made it into print for a huge pull they submitted half the time...Beckett doesn't really attend monthly shows (and if they do, it's only in the area of Texas where they are located), and I bet they spend 5 minutes a day checking Ebay for sales.

my thoughts on the pricing for this years YG's is that they are over produced. Back to the 90's we go where everything was over produced.

You would think that upper deck would want the pricing more accurate. If you think you can pull a $100 card you are going to buy more than if you can only get one at half of that.

Wow, mind blowing. I just sold a Christian Hanson YG's Exclusives on the bay for a tenth of what OPG lists it at... Never in a million years would I expect even half of what they book it at for that card. I don't understand the pricing on Kane and Del Zotto, Duchene either...

I think that may be the case to an extent - as you were noting elsewhere, much 05-06 UD1 broken without a Crosby, but it seems that just about everybody is pulling a Tavares. Even if it is the case that they're being produced to a degree that soon everybody will have one, until everybody does have one there is still that basic economic rule of supply and demand. People are still crazy for Tavares and paying big bucks for his prized YG.
