Gerbe Nets First NHL Goal; Mercier Debuts
Former Omaha Lancers forward Nathan Gerbe had a big day on Wednesday that he will remember for a long time. After being called up to the Buffalo Sabres in the morning, he scored his first NHL goal that evening.
During his first shift of the game against the Washington Capitals, he recorded an assist on Steve Montador's goal, which proved to be the game-winner in the 3-0 victory. Gerbe's big moment came at 14:42 of the second period when he took a pass and jammed in a power play goal, his first NHL tally. He totaled 14:28 minutes of ice time and provided the Sabres plenty of energy all evening in the win over the top team in the NHL Eastern Conference.
