Every argument ever between Christians and atheists
I'm coming to think there's no point anymore. Every argument takes one of a small number of forms, and the repetition is driving me mad. For example, they all start out like this:
Christian: "I believe in God."
Atheist: "I don't believe in gods."
Christian: "Why not?"
Atheist: "There's no evidence that gods exist."
Christian: "..."
And from there it will always go in one of the following directions:
10. "Here's a bunch of famous scientists who believed in God. Are you smarter than them?"
9. "You're just saying that because you hate God and love to sin!"
8. "Well you better believe it, or you'll be tortured in Hell for eternity!"
7. "So you think you came from a monkey?"
6. "Look at the sky and the trees! You think this all happened by accident?"
5. "You just have to accept God into your heart."
4. "My faith IS evidence!"
3. "The Bible proves God exists."
2. "So then where did the universe come from?"
1. "Oh yeah? Well, can you prove God DOESN'T exist?"
No matter which one of these I get handed to me, and no matter what I say in response, the other person always goes through one or more or even all of the others.
It's always the same, no matter what happens and no matter what anyone does. It never changes. There's just no point.

The point of which being that I don't feel like arguing anymore. I could write out my responses to all those things, but that would surely just drag me down one of those avenues yet again.

JW how many times you're going to post this same thread?

So you posted a thread to make the point that there is no point??.....
My personal opinion is that nobody sees it your way because you respond to everyone by being rude, demeaning, insulting and crass. Anyone who might be swayed by your comments is immediately turned off by your boorish attitude towards everyone who doesn't immediately take your side.
Also, I imagine that anyone who you talk about this with will say that there is no point in talking to you about it because you always say the same thing in response to them. So that pendulum swings both ways...

so when someone of faith disagrees with you just let it be and you can believe what you want to as long as it doesnt hurt anyone and i can believe what i want to as long as it doesnt hurt anyone.

gsj, do you honestly believe that ALL muslims are so radical that they want to kill all that don't believe as they do?
as for gator boys thread... it is very true. I honestly believe much along the lines of gator boy and while I agree with there being no real point to the debate it is an interesting one to have. I've had some where the person has a faith but honestly doesn't claim to know the answers and are very open minded to a discussion. For most people that I know with faith it seems as though it's somewhat of a family tradition that has been passed down and that's all they know. If you have years and years of a faith ingrained in you I can definitely see where one would become offended when someone else tells them they think it's essentially made up.

I'm an atheist. People are usually shocked to hear this because I'm so conservative.
Pure and simple, I believe religion was developed to control humans. Simply study your history and you will see that in its early roots religion was developed to control mass populations. Today, religious leaders in modern societies have less control because of the development of governments. When Christianity and Islam were first introduced, so were strict religious laws. Once you research the roots of religion from a scientific perspective you will become an atheist (if you have an open mind). The problem is most people that are religious were introduced to religion at such an early age they do not have an open mind. For example Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Iran are 98-100% Islam. This is because the people there are exposed (or over-exposed) to Islam from birth and have no other choice. The governments there control their populations through Islamic laws. Islamic laws are the laws of the land in the Middle East. In essence, most religious people had no choice because their parents over exposed them to religion.
Don't get me wrong, I don't believe religion is a 100% bad thing. I know our country and laws were founded on Christian principles and accept it. I also think religion can make people better. The problem is there are so many that use religion to harm others and control societies.
