there are plenty of reason why redemptions should expire. here's a few:
1. you have to keep in mind that it is the players who usually can't return cards on time. your solution is dont' add the card to the set. you think UD is gonna destroy the cards that arrived late and that they have already paid the players for? how many big name players are in redemptions at times? especially for multi auto'ed cards?
2. UD does try to make cards ASAP. the redemption program, customer service dept., and time and energy chasing after players to return the cards are all a drag on earnings. it makes no sense to purposely insert redemptions and keep track of it for 3 years.
3. there is no guarantee that ALL of the redemptions will be redeemed. why should UD hold the cards indefinitely on the off chance you might break an old case in 10 years when the cards sitting there can be used to make other CURRENT spending customers happy? it's bad enough some cards aren't made or are lost by the players, what should those people get if UD didn't have replacements to give out?
4. they aren't going to make a card fresh for you when you redeem it. first it's expensive to make one card rather than in a batch. second, let's say your card has an auto on it. who's going to chase the player for one auto 10 years after a product is made?
considering you don't know the logistics of how to run a card company and everything behind the manufacturing process, how can you simply label UD lazy? you have to remember that businesses have a reason for everything they do; you might not know what they are but that doesn't mean what UD is doing isn't practical to keep their customers happy and themselves in business.
